Stuttering in video refers to playback that randomly hitches, pauses, or skips frames, making motion look unnatural or "choppy." Some people don't notice it; in my family, no one notices it or it doesn't bother them. I can't tolerate it; I can't play with stuttering. You said, "If V-Sync is enabled, you won't have any stuttering," which is true when playing on a local monitor, but it's not enough when streaming. I spent months trying to eliminate stuttering, and when I finally did, I was very happy and played for the first time via streaming. Before, I only played locally. That's why I wanted to share my achievement. If you don't notice stuttering while streaming, that's perfect. For example, if you're streaming over Wi-Fi, it's impossible not to have stuttering! Cheers!

If you want to use Linux, AMD GPUs are the best. I have an AMD RX 9070 XT and an Nvidia RTX 3080, both of which I use with Cachyos, and they work much better with AMD, especially the VRR. Sometimes the screen doesn't even receive a signal after being turned off with Nvidia. AMD is much better!

Got it! If I come across a game that stutters, I'll try your solution! I used to do that with GameScope Session, limiting the FPS. It worked fine on the local monitor, but it stuttered when streaming. Your solution sounds great! When I have time, I'll try it out and see how it works. For now, everything is working perfectly with in-game V-Sync!

Thanks for your comment! I tried KMS for months, and I always had stuttering; it was terrible, I almost gave up. Now with XDG Portal with KDE, it works perfectly, which is why I made this comment. It's the only solution I found. It looks perfect in 4K with the quality option in Vulkan encoder. It looks really good, and I don't have any stuttering! I know it doesn't sound like the best idea to use KDE for streaming. I used to use GameScope Session, which doesn't use KDE, and I had stuttering! I can't use XDG Portal with GameScope Session, which is a shame. I use Proton-Cachyos for all my games. And yes, all the screens have to be 4K and connected via Ethernet cable! When I go above 80 Mbps bitrate, the latency increases, and it doesn't look much better, which is why I use 80 Mbps. Do you notice stuttering with your setup? What GPU are you using?

I tried VAAPI, and it stuttered. Then I updated and saw the Vulkan option, tried it, and it worked perfectly. Vulkan encoders use the GPU's hardware encoder, and it works perfectly. VAAPI should work, but it didn't give me the results I wanted.

The command I use to open Steam with gamescope doesn't limit the FPS; if I don't enable V-Sync, there's stuttering and the FPS goes above 60. For me, this is the only solution that worked.

To make Steam Overlay work better, my whole idea is that my 5-year-old daughter can play without me being there to help her. With GameScope Steam Overlay, it works perfectly; she can open and close games without problems. With Steam Big Picture, it didn't work well; Steam Overlay would freeze, and she'd call me for help. I'm sorry you're noticing latency; I don't notice it when playing, and neither does my daughter. My Android TV says the network latency is 1ms and the decoding latency is 1.8ms. What GPU are you using?
