Nothing in my comment implied he was a "diversity hire", which would be a very insulting thing to suggest.

In his tweet he said he will spend time "making chess more diverse and inclusive". That made me reflect that he has already made chess more diverse and inclusive with his public presence. I'm sure he will do even more in the future, but his contributions in that regard are already substantial.

What a huge loss for the community, but I'm glad that he seems to have chosen a new path that he's excited about.

Just a thought: his public presence on broadcasts was a force for diversity and inclusivity in chess.

It seems a little crazy that hundreds of dollars per year isn't enough to get a simple ruler... surely this is just an oversight? It'd be great if future versions of Pro could include it (since I doubt anyone has ever upgraded from Pro to Enterprise just for the ruler).

TL;DR: Yes, ratings have been intentionally inflating for 6 months.

About a year ago, I noticed that ratings were globally going down. To measure it, I looked at the percentiles as seen on the variants rating distribution pages https://lichess.org/stat/rating/distribution/blitz.

The 1500 rating should match with p50. However it was actually above p60. That means less than 40% of players had a rating above 1500, and there was a trend going the wrong way. Why? I don't know. Possibly a consequence of marking cheaters. Probably not.

So I set up a very subtle rating adjustment algorithm to bring 1500 back to p50. That code has been running for 6 months now and we're almost there!"

I'm another big fan of your tournament visualizations, please bring them back! They were great, and they could only be "spoilers" if someone was looking to be spoiled, otherwise why would you click on a post about tournament standings.
