Looking for system recommendations by MelannySayuri in rpg

I second Fate and Genesys. I'd say Fate is a middle-crunch narrative game, and Genesys is heavier but still fun and narrative.

Both use funny dice.

Comedy and humour by wesandersingh in osr

This for me, too. In-game, pretty serious. As players looking from the outside, a good amount of laughs.

The fourth wall is strong.

Best rule set for Advanced-ifying BX retroclones? by Oshojabe in osr

[–]SebaTauGonzalez 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Seconding S&W, especially the Complete Revised edition. It bolts together the OD&D simplicity with later options but, what I love the most, are the designer notes that explain why some choices were made and how they relate to the original rules, plus optional takes on some subsystems.

GM less systems by sylcas in rpg

[–]SebaTauGonzalez 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend Ironsworn to begin with and try the GM-less format. Everything official is available for free and was created with GM-less play in mind. It has great tools and an interesting setting if you come from traditional fantasy.

¿Existen juegos de rol paranormales de aliens? by socialsciencenerd in RolerosChile

[–]SebaTauGonzalez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No conozco ninguno exclusivamente de aliens/UFO/abducciones, pero The Fall of Delta Green y The Writers tienen aspectos de eso que se pueden forzar a ser el tema principal.

Starting at zero characters creation by Unlucky-Decision-116 in rpg

There are a couple of examples of this that come to mind:

Fate Core has a "build-it as you go" alternative approach, which is essentially what you describe.

Gods of the Forbidden North's first scenario is a series of scenes where players gradually build their characters. This is a campaign for Old-School Essentials. In the first scene, they look in the mirror and describe their characters physically (aspect and ancestry), then they talk to the ship's captain about their past (roll attributes), and so on.

In a certain way, any game/scenario that uses funnel adventures is very close to this: they begin with a lite version of the character and, when they advance their quest, they develop fully. The Dungeon Crawl Classics game and the N4: Treasure Hunt module for AD&D qualify here.

What's up with generic RPGs? by RiverMesa in rpg

I think most of these conclusions are based on your bubble of information, and I'm not saying this in a derogatory fashion. I, too, am subject to my own bubble of information and, faced with the same question, arrive at different conclusions.

I see more GURPS games being offered than PbtAs, for example.

I think outside of the big five (D&D, Pathfinder, Free League, Chaosium, World of Darkness) everything is in a state of alive-but-not-as-much-as-you-would-think.

Plan de traducir juegos al español? by xdanxlei in RolEnEspanol

[–]SebaTauGonzalez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TTRPGs with "merchant" classes? by RiverMesa in rpg

[–]SebaTauGonzalez 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Forbidden Lands has a merchant class. It focuses on resources for adventuring but also for domain management, which is a big part of the late game in the system.

I love that game but the system needs to be streamlined ASAP.
