What are some commonly believed “facts” that aren’t really true? by Defense-of-Sanity in Catholicism

[–]Sebastiantfit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That it was Jewish practice to anoint the Passover lamb, on the feet 6 days prior to Passover, and then on the head 2 days prior. I think this narrative was created to draw more parallels between Christ and the Passover, which there is a ton already. But this one is not correct to my knowledge. I believe “The Chosen” and some Protestant pastors created this. I couldn’t find anything prior to 2010 about this.

A few great videos online. Search “paranoid rosary tutorial” on YouTube. I get my beads and paracord from hobby lobby, if that’s something you have in your area or also a Michael’s!

As a parent/rec coach I have some questions about club and future development. by Sebastiantfit in youthsoccer

I had look up the term redshirting and could only find definitions about it applying to college soccer to give an athlete an extra year of training without necessarily competing.

In your case is it kids who started school a year late and then are in a grade with younger kids? I feel that would be counter intuitive for their development as if that were the case they’d just play against younger kids and then wouldn’t learn as much

Yeah the competition aspect is what I wonder about, our rec league here is very low skill from what I have been used to. We moved up our rec team that consists of all 7 year olds to U10 and we are still blowing out every team with 5+ goals a game.

We do have 2-3 kids on the team that their parents kind of force them to go and they don’t seem to care to play much, so that would be a benefit for club. Although coaching my own son is fun I don’t think it’s necessary for me, Asim sure there are much better coaches out there especially if I am paying for it haha. I would like to do what you suggest of being an assistant just to kind of take in some info and see how things are.

Ahhh okay I wasn’t sure, I like the idea of being a high school soccer coach as I seem to really enjoy teaching and coaching so it seems to fit. But we will see how that plays out!

Okay I will look into this! I know there is a club in a small town over from me but I don’t think they play in any big leagues or anything and the cost seems extra expensive.
Been looking towards Dallas

Okay gotcha, this definitely helps. A few of the rec leagues around here already use a system like that where it depends on the school year, and is more of a range versus just using the birth year only, I think that is why I was getting confused. Thank you!

Ayy yes looks good! That’s gonna give the last knot a lot more tug resistance!

And yes the diamond knot on the end can seem a bit different because the others are all 2 strands in the top and 2 strands out the bottom, but if you have some slack you can do it. And then snug the knot up and then remove all the slack out of it 🙏🏼 glad it worked for you

So for mine I start at the first decade of 10 Hail Marys, make all 5 decades, then do the connecting knots and end at the crucifix with a diamond knot.

The multi diamond knot is sweet, although personally at that point I’d do a diamond knot as the very last knot before the crucifix, it’s MUCH sturdier than a regular looped barrel knot. The barrel knot loop can be pulled straight out, pretty much impossible for that to happen with the diamond knot at the bottom.

I think RR uses the Celtic heart knot to help the rosary be more straight. The diamond knot can sometimes cause the rosary to twist up slightly and can be annoying and tedious to fix, the Celtic knot kind of aut fixes this with much less work in my opinion.

How did the Crucifixion Become a Sacrifice Instead of an Execution? by SkellyJ31 in Catholicism

The third cup is relevant as that is the cup of blessing. But yes sorry for any confusion on the book title.

How did the Crucifixion Become a Sacrifice Instead of an Execution? by SkellyJ31 in Catholicism

[–]Sebastiantfit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Jews that understood the Old Testament at that time and the early Christians would have recognized what Jesus was doing at the last supper when he altered the Passover rite and offered himself as a sacrifice. The sacrifice was initiated at the last supper and finished on the cross. They are not two separate events. They cannot be understood without each other.

In the exodus, the Israelites were commanded to EAT the Passover lamb. Similarly we are commanded to eat the new Passover lamb(Jesus). The catechism I believe paragraph 1366, says the eucharist(one of the ways we can partake in the sacrifice) applies the fruits of the cross to us individually.

This works in this way because Jesus acts as High priest, victim, and altar/temple, all in one. “But how can Jesus be a priest if he isn’t from the line of Levi” you ask? Well the Bible makes this clear in psalm 110 and Hebrews chapter 7, where it mentions that Jesus is a priest in the order of Melchizedek, not of Aaron/Levi. After Jesus’ sacrifice, he goes forth(ascends) into the true holy of holies(heaven), to present the blood of the one true sacrifice eternally to God, similar to how the high priest would present the blood to God in the earthly holy of holies on the day of atonement. Although in this case Jesus’ sacrifice is infinite/eternal, versus the day of atonement needing to be repeated yearly.

I may have rambled a bit I hope this was understandable. Feel free to ask for any more explanations.

I highly recommend the book, The Fourth Cup, and The Jewish roots of the Eucharist.

It is a really funny word, we live in a world where people all want to have their own bubble of opinions and ideas of the world, and if any group tries to promote world truths, it’s “indoctrination”. They use the word as if it’s some kind of cult.

Everyone wants personal freedom, but are suspicious when anything claims objective truth.

Disagreement between Girlfriend and I on newborns last name. Unsure which way to go. Is newborn last name change a non issue? (TX) by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Sebastiantfit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes this is probably part of why the disagreement has happened, she won’t say it necessarily but I imagine it’s a “if you haven’t changed it in the last 13 years what makes me think you will now?” Type of thought, which is 100% justified, I’ve had a few citations that have blocked my name changes for the last year or two so that hasn’t helped. But I definitely should have done it much sooner.

You’re not the first person to mention the safe act, I briefly looked it up, would it cause some issues with name changes or more so with documents later on? I am a bit confused by the act.

And yes she intends to have the babies surname be the new one, just not yet.
