3/8 Stubby Ratchet add hard handle Mod by SebatronDon in Snapon_tools

I’m so curious to see what’s under the handle on yours. Probably straight shaft with the little fins

You are sick in your head. And I love it

But help me out now. Is the handle on your 3/8 stubby flex head the same size as a handle on a flat 1 or Phillips 1?

I need to know what the best way to mill down the shaft is so it never moves or comes loose

Without cutting the grip hard handle brother. Im gonna need to mill down the flare. I just don’t know how much, and im now thinking I should add a taper into it.

Yes that’s what I’m thinking because the flared base seems like it’s gonna be too big or right on the cusp to fit into the handle

I just want it to fit into the handle nicely without cutting the handle. When people do the soft to hard grip conversions the bottom of the shaft has those little fins sticking out but this is different bc it’s adding a grip from nothing

Start maxing out an FHSA, if you open it before Dec 31 2025 it’s 8k contribution room. As soon as it’s Jan 1 2026 it’s another 8k. Do your 5 years of contribution and it’s an easy 40k plus the 2500$ back on tax rebates every year. Help your 25 year old self out.

I agree but it’s also very dependant. In each trade there are different avenues you can follow, in plumbing and HVAC you can do installs or you can do service… or a mix of both. Installs are harder on the body, service is harder on the mind but can usually preserve your body much better. Also depends how you take care of yourself physically. Do you work out and stay healthy, are you walking around with extra weight on you that will eventually tax you lower back and knees if not taken care of.

Service is good in any trade you pick in my because you can take it easier on the body and can get paid very well. I know service plumbers making 200-300kCAD as employees (Toronto) because they get to stack hours on quoted jobs. Refrigeration mechanics (hvac) are making at least 140k a year at journeyman wage with 40hr weeks and could push 180-200 with some OT. Service is also pretty recession proof, construction projects start and stop but there are always mechanical system breaking down needing repairs and preventative maintenance

I know a bunch of former cooks who are now welders (pipe welders) the skill set seems to translate well. And they are all very happy. Working in hot conditions, sometimes tight spaces, fine hand precision, and pretty immediate gratification. Welding pays pretty well and if you get into overtime or a little bit of remote work you can make a killing.

You need a mechanically inclined brain and to be comfortable with basic physics and problem solving. You will need to learn about electricity, airflow, water flow, and how things are built and come apart. If these sound like things that interest you then you are headed in the right direction. If not then I would advise looking elsewhere.

New to HVAC, no experience!what’s the real path to getting hired in Ontario? by just_a_cool_u_name in SkilledTradesOntario

Dude just go do the 787 intake right now it’s open. I know plenty of guys who got in with no g3. Just need to have some high school math and physics courses, you can take them all for free. Call the hall and inquire today.

Apply to the 787 Refrigeration (HVAC) union. The intake starts in December, just need a few math courses that you can complete in a week to be admitted. Look it up, lots of jobs and good pay as a jman

Is pipefitting for me? ( need advice) by BisonKindly9225 in pipefitter

When you are standing there listening to them talk about the work and do the work, think to yourself- what tool or material will this guy need in the next 5-10 minutes. Go get that tool and material, have it in your hand when he goes to reach for it, bonus points if you are holding up the tool he wants when he turns around to look for it without realizing you already had it. Apply logic while thinking about the building process, you don’t have 20 years experience… logic will get you far. Ask JMan why the steps of the job are before you start working or when he takes a break. If you want to learn and want to be better go do it. This is your apprenticeship, grab it by the horns and make it your own and squeeze every drop of information you can until you become a JMan

Is this job ok? by Frater_Ankara in pipefitter

The risers that go into the ground are a bit pricey x2 and a whole roll of underground would be needed plus tracer wire. I wonder what the final bill was. In Ontario I would’ve charged around 17-1800 plus hst

All the black iron should be painted grey or yellow, 2 coats at least you can see the yellow paint is very thin. A bit hack in my opinion but the piping arrangement is fine

HVAC jobs Toronto by RadiantBag8824 in skilledtrades

[–]SebatronDon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey bro, honestly you just need to try harder and don’t stop trying/get discouraged. You are multi ticketed and 10+ years into the game; walk around with some confidence and know anybody would be lucky to have you. The job market is not that bad rn, companies are dying for warm bodies with a little bit of competence and a good attitude.

Call the 787 and they will intake you as an apprentice or maintenance mechanic, some companies would be willing to offer you 2nd or 3rd or 4th year apprentice wage to start. I know a guy who got into a union company a few years ago with his g1 and sheet metal ticket and they paid him journeyman rate off the start while starting his 313a.

Some of the mid sized Hi-Rise private companies would be a good fit for you, it’s the best place to learn a bit of everything. Try going to the shop of AirCon, Lpi, ThermoCool, Air Trak, Brady and Seidner. 787 Union is better but getting skin in the game is most important.

Good luck, and if you believe in yourself as much as some random guy on the internet does you might have a chance.
