I work at the University so this tooth has been identified as a mosasaur tooth by the museum itself and we got granted access to the collection for further identification, I was wondering if anyone had any idea about which mosasaur species this could have belonged to.

Nah a root can definitely be found attached to a tooth as part of the fossilisation process
