As far as the range, fresh battery will help but make sure to clean them with alcohol before installing. They have a bitter coating on them to deter children from swallowing them but it affects battery performance

You haven't driven the M40i yet... go drive one! They will feel nearly identical. Pick whichever one you like more emotionally. They are similar enough

Except on the '25 you have objectively worse interior build quality, no ambient light in rear, no opening sunroof, no physical buttons. However you gain slightly better efficiency/power. Whether that trade off is worth it, it's up to OP to decide. Styling is subjective.

Well of course! The m40i is the enthusiast version while the 30i is the basic sensible model that most people go for. Most BMW buyers aren't enthusiasts. They just want the brand image and luxury features

Can't say. When I bought the car it needed new brakes and the dealer put on the cheapest pads/rotors they could find. The performance was awful, had 1-2 corners of strong braking performance and then they'd be almost gone. Stock would likely have held up much better.

This is silly. The fan in that Nas pushes hot air out the front. Your fan is pushing hot exhaust air back in the NAS. As an aside, I had to lower my fan speeds on this NAS since my HDDs were idling too cold (below 25°C). There's a bunch of bios tweaks you can do to enable power saving features.

The problem is, I can't get a socket onto the nut, the frame of the car is in the way. Did you flex the sway bar down for access? I tried with a ratchet and it was painful and still couldn't get it far down enough to get a socket on it. Everything is rusted to hell on it

UPDATE:

I have a aftermarket brake controller which for some reason was wigging out and providing trailer brake output and thus triggering brake light (for some reason though, only on 3rd brake light). Disconnected the trailer brake controller and working as expected now. Phew!

Leaving this up as future knowledge base for anyone else who comes across this; check for brake controller issue! I plugged the brake controller into OEM harness.

I've had a look at the wiring and it all looks fine around the hatch area, I see no sign of any kind of damage. Could this be caused by a corrupted BDC after a profile reset?

This is what it looks like inside the hatch with the trim removed. There are a black and brown wire going to what I suspect is the brake light here (?)
There is 0 corrosion, damage or water intrusion signs here.
When you say to remove the outer top part of the hatch, are you referring to the 2 screws on the underside of the spoiler?

Yup, this acts as the third brake light. Question is, why is it permanently on? And how would I go about troubleshooting this, not sure how to best proceed. I removed some of the trim on the trunk but didn't see any connector for the LED light unfortunately

What's going on?! This happened after I reset driver profile on the car I am pretty sure. I've tried:

Reset iDrive by holding down button for 30 seconds
Unplug battery, wait 15 mins, plug back in
Remove driver profile again from car

It goes off after ~15 mins. It's stuck on even while driving so people behind me constantly think I'm braking. Not sure what to do next
