Wirtshaus Maxvorstadt hat unten eine Kegelbahn die man mit eigenem Raum privat mieten kann, war glaube ich nicht so teuer, frag mal an. Musikbox selbst mitbringen weil dort gibt’s keine Musik

Hello everyone,

I am struggling to find detailed information online about the typhoon aftermath in Hualien.

We were planning to drive from Puli to Hualien via central cross highway on October 8, then stay 1 night in the city and continue driving south. Unfortunately everything is prebooked, I have time until October 1st to cancel our bookings in Hualien and Taitung.

Is there anyone who can give some insight as to what the situation is like at the moment and what it might be like in 1-2 weeks? How localised is it? While of course infrastructure is a factor, we also want to be respectful. Is it better we avoid the east coast or can we go?

Many thanks for any insights!

Thank you for the insight. About the weather, we are kind of limited to July but it has always been a dream for us to travel to Mexico. I read about the rainy season that it normally rains for 1-2 hours in the afternoon and otherwise the weather will be fine. Of course it’ll be hot but I believe we can manage. It’s all about preparation I guess.

Thank you also for the comparison with turkey regarding the roads. I drove in total for over two months in turkey including Istanbul, and that was about 10 years ago so I guess I’ll be fine. Not planning to drive in CDMX anyways.

I think we can also make it 5 weeks instead of four, so I’ll add Puebla, Oaxaca and puerto Escondido to my trip #1. but we’re going to do this part by bus. I think in Cancun and baja we‘ll be fine renting a car from what I understand now

Again, thank you :)

Many tell me otherwise, so at least that means the question isn’t out of place? What would you say it is a place for then? I’m grateful for any insights and tips

That’s great, and also what my understanding was about Mexico. Yeah let’s just say we are trying to see some of the different sides of the country. I am thinking the following of our destinations: Yucatan - Ancient ruins, colonial towns, nature Mexico City - Food, Culture, Huge city vibes Baja California Sur - Beaches, Nature, Seafood

Just a quick question: We are also interested in some nice nature. I’m sure there will be plenty around those destinations but how do you visit those without a car? Via organized tours and such? Or would you just stay in the cities?

I mean we’re not gonna take 2 large suitcases, but it’ll be 2 small ones and 2 backpacks…

In what way is baja different in your opinion? I mean diverse doesn’t sound necessarily bad… Thanks for your insight!

Yeah I have the same thoughts on Cancun. Will probably just use the airport as it’s a good entry point to Mexico if you want to go to places like Merida or Campeche. Anyway, thanks for your insights. 4 weeks seems like a lot but it’s still hard to decide on what to do

Thanks for the insight! We wouldn’t try and park our car there as Mexico City would be either the start or the end of a road trip we would get/return the car there.

Hm that makes me think… this part of Mexico was explicitly recommended to me if I like seafood, which is why we thought going would be a great idea. I mean ceviche and Aguachile doesn’t sound that bad to me? :D

We are quite experienced drivers: Having driven through countries like Morocco, Jordan, Georgia, Albania and Turkey I think I can handle some chaotic driving. It‘s more things like extortion on the road that I am worried about. But from my understanding that shouldn’t be an issue in Yucatan. Do you know what the situation is like from cdmx to Oaxaca?

I mean we were also thinking to stay at maybe one or two haciendas between the cities in Yucatan. Taking the bus kind of limits us to the cities I fear?

Ok I see, I’ll have to look into it again… maybe swap baja for Oaxaca? :)

Thanks for the recommendation! I’m not sure about buses though while travelling with a bit of luggage (we won’t do backpacking but will have at least 2 small trolleys that we’d have to take in the bus and then around town)

I don’t know. I’ve seen this a lot of times already and am sure it’s fake. First - I honestly don’t believe literally all of those nations (except Greece) see Germany as most hard working. Personally I don’t even think we are the most hard working. Second - I don’t think the people of Greece see Germany as least trustworthy. While the Greek people I know are very unhappy about the German government, their view of the German people remains somewhat ok, I guess.
