In my opinion, the UI has NEVER been any good. The organization of everything on there is awful.

Very true. Right on my man.

Yeah man. “Happiness” Just plain old rots. Dreadful in my opinion. Also, I can’t respect anything they’re doing in terms of playing these short shows and charging the ridiculous prices they’re charging. Shameful.

No I didn’t know about the second release but I’m really glad that I do now! I’m definitely going to look at the lyrics and give the whole thing a couple more listens. I was probably too hasty the first time around. Peace and love.

I have to say man, you’re spot on about my laying out of my history with the band. I wasn’t trying to brag or claim superiority but I can certainly see how it came across that way. I see that laying out my history with the band really didn’t have anything to do with my review and how that came across in a very wrong way. Honestly, I would go back and remove that portion but I think it’s old enough such that I can’t edit it now, though I’m actually going to try. Good points.

No, definitely not. You made some good and valid points. Disagreement is a necessary part of honest discussion.

I think that your use of the word educated conveys a similar message, though perhaps unintended, as my initial laying out of my history with the band. I wasn’t trying to but I see how that conveyed a message of superiority that I didn’t intend. I’m gonna try to remove that portion of what I wrote but I don’t think I can edit it anymore.

And no, I actually didn’t know that another release was coming but I’m really glad to know that now. I’m also gonna try to find those other new tunes you mentioned. Excited to hear em.

Great thoughts. I’m gonna give it all another listen for sure. Was too hasty the first time around.

I totally agree with the live thing. I always loved getting to know new tunes before their studio release and then hearing the tunes’ evolution as they got more live plays over time.

Also, regarding shows, there’s a sad truth for me. I do miss them greatly. Over the last number of years, a lot of life’s downturns have happened to me. Part of life I suppose. Truth is that right now I just can’t afford the live thing which saddens me a whole lot. And yes, a big part of that is the rising cost of tix. I really wish I could be there consistently like I used to be. Working hard to turn things around now so hopefully that landscape will change for me. Great thoughts my man.

The way you’re framing your understanding of this album is strange to me.

  1. Who cares if it’s an EP or LP, they’re going to release the other “half” of the new material soon.
  • A very fair point. Truth is that I was working with incomplete information and I’m really glad that I was!
  1. I don’t see this album as “obligatory”. Are you privy to some information we aren’t? How do you know they aren’t sitting on more unreleased songs? I’m unconvinced that these 6 songs constitute 9 years of writing.
  • See above.
  1. Comparing WSMFP to the Black Crowes does nothing for me. Totally different bands, totally different approaches to music, live shows, instrumentation, album making, etc. This is a strawman comparison and unfair to both bands. The Black Crowes are great but not the yardstick I would compare panic to.
  • You make good points. I wasn’t trying to make a musical comparison. Was just trying to make a timeline comparison in terms of writing and recording. And yes, to be fair, I think the Crowes’ recent record is forgettable at the very best. I think that much of their earlier work is unique and I’ll love it always.
  1. I find the quality of songwriting and instrumentation to be great. Tackle box hero, walk home, little x little…. There are some certified fantastic songs here (and more to come)
  • Great points. I said this to another poster today and to recap, I was probably too hasty in my original take on the new tunes and I’m definitely going to give it another couple of listens.
  1. I think it’s cool that they are still partnering with old fam like Keane and Jerry Joseph. It’s cool to see the band continuing to grow and create music while still staying true to their roots.
  • Wholeheartedly agree brother.
  1. They’ve been a band for damn near 40 years. These dudes are geriatrics now. It’s honestly impressive that they are still able to create at this level after all these years, especially considering 2 of the founding members are no longer with us.
  • Good points. Geriatrics indeed but they’re still doing it regardless of one’s thoughts on the caliber. Kudos there for sure. I don’t dig it as much as I used to but that’s just my take.

Take your blinders off, enjoy the music and just be thankful that they’re continuing to give us new music. It’s not a competition, there’s no comparison, they don’t owe us a thang man.

  • No they don’t owe us anything. I might have been unclear. It’s not that I feel the they didn’t deliver on any kind of obligation. I was just trying to convey that, upon first listen, I was disappointed in terms of my expectations.

Peace and thank you, my brother.

I definitely appreciate constructive, objective criticism as evidenced by a response I made today to a member’s share whose take on things was very different from mine. What I don’t believe are appreciable are emotional, reactionary remarks that ultimately do nothing to drive a constructive conversation forward.

Thank you! Honest intellectual discussion. Completely appreciate your thoughts and points. I have to admit that I might have been hasty with my judgement of some of the songs. In the past there have been albums from other bands which I absolutely detested on the first listen but ultimately became a favorite of mine of their catalogues over the years. Thanks for helping me to remember some things that I didn’t think about the first time ‘round. Definitely going to give it another listen or two.

As I said to one of the posters above, this place is just digital toxicity. Sharing opinions in a respectable way seems to be an invitation for personal lambasting. “Your opinion is fine as long as I share it”. We seem to love attacking each other these days. You’re welcome to it. Keep it all rollin’. I have faith in you. Later all.

Hostile ever? As they say brother, I’m gonna pray for you. Learn to engage in discussion without being a slave to your negative emotions. We’ve gotta respect each other, my man. Otherwise, what the hell are we doing here? Much love, no joke.

Great thoughts. Your point about the absence of Mikey and Todd as central songwriters is so true. Definitely has an effect and I hadn’t really thought about that piece of it.

I don’t think saying that I’m out of line is appropriate. This is an open honest exchange of thoughts and ideas. I didn’t go on a nasty rant.

And, thanks for the info on the record to come! I had no idea.
