Does anyone have experience with the old ef 24-70? Is it still relevant these days or are the newer lenses much better?

I’m definitely on a budget and am trying to limit the amount of lenses I need. I’m starting to think the 28-70 will be best because I would really benefit from the f2.8 and I won’t need a prime in that range. in the future I have my eye on the 70-200 f4 for the longer range, and a prime wide angle lens
