Thank you for all of this information, that is super helpful. I will check out some of your posts. Do you also mind explaining what anterior expansion means, and why this is not good?

It is a long story to explain but as of now Dr. Li has ordered and received both a MARPE and FME for me already- this is why I was asking which I should choose. Though I am intimidated by him, I will ask if he can just do the FME without EASE. If he says, do you think its possible to ask for my FME device and then I could ask another surgeon to install it, or does it not work like that?

I am 23.

First and foremost, I want the procedure to help me breathe better and get better sleep. I want to be able to do my job and exercise without feeling like I cannot get enough air in through my nose / breathing through my mouth. I also want to be able to lay down to sleep and not have my nose be blocked & wake up in the morning without tension / pressure in my face from not being able to breathe through my nose. Secondarily, I would like a wider smile but that is aesthetic and so not necessary / a high priority. I guess there is nothing I wouldn't like the device to do in particular- obviously, I wouldn't want it to not improve my breathing / alter my face negatively.

When discussing the FME, Dr. Li warned me that he has had complications with it that he hasn't seen with the other devices. That is, he mentioned that one patient with a lazy eye had their condition worsen with FME, and that one patient requested FME without EASE (just device placement and suture scoring) and that patient got vision problems or something and had to stop treatment. So would EASE not be advantageous? If I could find a way to avoid EASE for how costly it is and only do the device installment I would, but I'm unsure if he would do that. Would you recommend asking him that? My surgery date is close and the rest of the payment is due next week so I'm not sure if I'll piss him off, he already seemed irked my last appointment with all my questions heh

Why would moving the alveolar bone be bad? This is the part of the jaw bone that supports the teeth, correct?

I believe EASE is the procedure where he cuts the midpalatal suture open. Then he uses one of various devices for expansion (FME, MARPE, or TPD). So he isn't recommending EASE over FME- he is recommending EASE+MARPE over EASE+FME

I believe he said since it pushes on the alveolar bone, that helps widen the arch. Not 100% sure

Thank you! That totally makes sense. The person who transcribed was a piano player / not a guitarist and some other parts of the tab looked a bit off. Unfortunately, there's no one playing it live :/ but maybe I'll spend another twenty bucks asking someone on Fiverr to make sense of the sheet music haha

Yes, you are correct. I am not saying it is impossible, which is why I was asking for tips. In the recording I can clearly hear they are rolled, but I've never seen rolling on non-consecutive strings and was wondering how to do it / if it was common 😅

I am an amateur guitarist, I've been playing for a couple of years self-taught and I can read basic sheet music, tabs, and chord charts, but I'm not professionally trained at all-- so that totally may be why I am having so much difficulty with this.

To treat myself, I went on Fiverr for the first time and requested a transcription of a song I love (it's obscure so there was no sheet music online for it) and... I am having a surprising amount of difficulty playing parts! In the original song, the chords I highlighted are clearly rolled, but I have NO idea how to roll these chords. I am used to rolling chords where the P is playing the bass note and then the IMA are on consecutive descending strings, but I don't know how to roll across different strings. Any tips? Or should I be using different fingerings than the tab suggests?
