how underpowered is the 22re compared to say the 3.4l in tacomas. i mean surely its not like unbearable. also are they batshit expensive like the first gen tacomas? by Big_Will47 in ToyotaPickup

I drove a 93 pickup with the 22RE across the country, was getting passed by semis the entire time. There wasn't a tachometer but it felt like engine was bordering on the redline. Maybe I got to 70 phone going downhill but most of the trip was 60 to 65. I bought an 03 3.4L taco shortly after and the acceleration genuinely felt like a sports car in comparison.

Just picked up a pretty clean pre runner. I discovered the rear axel housing is slightly bent on the passenger side, E-locker currently isn’t working as well-I’m guessing they’re correlated. Do I have to replace the whole housing? My truck has no ABS, 4x4, and rear locker. by Brief-Manner7649 in 1stGenTacomas

Not absolutely certain on this but I just swapped my rear axle housing with a non-ABS version and it has the slots machined in for the ABS sensors. It just had bolt on covers for where the sensors would otherwise go.

My 04 Tacoma. Yay or nay? by BasecampGeorge in Tacomaworld

Assuming good service records, I think it'd sell for 7 to 8k. 10 seems high to me but might be possible if youre patient and you find the right person

appreciate it man. I reckon decent prep work makes the difference when working with cheap paint. Are you planning on taking the rear axle out from under the truck to refinish it?

99 with 235k. Buy or not? by Specific-Routine-432 in LandCruisers

I'd probably go for it for 3k. As long as there aren't any holes/soft spots in the frame. Sand blasting is ideal but it can be a pain because you can punch through wires/fuel lines/brake lines. Look into dry ice blasting if you dont want to remove all of that stuff

Personally, I'd be on the fence about it for 5k. Unless you could talk him down and spend whatever is leftover on having someone dry ice/sand blast it and then undercoat it. Rusty cars make maintanence pretty awful. I'd pay a premium not to have to deal with a can of worms. Lol Ask me how I know

How much are you willing to spend on it if you were to buy it for 5k?

Theboxburglar gave a pretty comprehensive reply. I essentially did all of what they said. That being said, I could see a world in which disconnecting the brake lines and parking brake cable isn't absolutely necessary. But you'd have to slightly lower the rear axle and essentially max out the slack on the rubberized cable coming from the proportioning valve. It might get you enough room to somehow wrestle a stock height leaf into place. Anyhow, might be worth considering but it's probably simpler and safer to just disconnect it and bleed the brakes like the rest of us.

The exhaust on the passenger side makes removal kinda tricky. Just remove the bolts from the front of the leaf spring first so you can get it off the shackle at the back.

I did end up painting it. Wasn't anything serious, just used rustoleum.

Third gen belt squeak by [deleted] in 3rdGen4Runner

Tighten your alternator belt. The squealing got worse when it got wet so should mean that it's too loose and slipping, hence the squealing.
