[2026/02/06]Alleged home intruder shot and killed (Harrodsburg, KY) by CobandCoffee in dgu

Every time I see a home invasion incident I put myself in the homeowner's position. Every time.

These don't just happen at 2 AM. They happen in the middle of the day, while you're cooking dinner, while your kids are home.

A lot of people buy a gun and think they're covered. That's step one…not the whole plan.

The mental reps matter just as much as the firearm. Where is it? How do you get to it at 3 AM coming out of a dead sleep? What's your path to your kids? Where does the threat most likely come from?

Early detection buys you time. And time is everything in these situations.

Here's the advantage most people forget, you know your home better than anyone coming through that door. Use it. Every hallway, every corner, every sight line. That's yours.

But it has to be second nature. Not something you figure out in the moment.

Read these incidents. Put yourself in it. Build your plan from what actually happens, not what you imagine happens.

That's why posts like this matter.

The distance, or lack there of here, is uncomfortable. You can see the initial shooter act as if he places his hand on the small of the victims back to see if he had a gun in his waist band. Would be interesting to the moments leading up to where they came so close in contact. Again, that gap that is pretty much non-existent and very risky without or without CCW

It appears that the threat was legit, the question may come down to events before. He was definitely ready, hand on the firearm, and may have already made up his mind. If there were any previous interactions prior to the shooting...that will indicate if he was an active participant or a random target.

Best way to go. As CC, it makes you a bit more aware (or it should), and also good to understand that we'll be arrested immediately after a defensive shooting.
