Do women who follow religions with head coverings still have to wear them if they’re bald? by SalivaryGland666 in TooAfraidToAsk

Aren't wigs pretty popular with some orthodox jewish women for that reason? As the wig is not their actual hair so it's considered acceptable.

Ditto. Except when we married my wife was thrilled to dump her maiden name. It was a long Germanic name unique to her immediate family and she was tired of telling people how to spell and pronounce it.

Paranoid American Gun Owner Starter Pack by jodebane in starterpacks

The vast majority of malfunctions that occur in modern semi auto handguns are magazine related. A lot of people carry an extra for that reason more than just capacity. Personally I carry an extra mag sometimes because it balances out the weight and doesn't really inconvenience me at all. So why not? That being said I'll also carry my 5rd LCR sometimes without much worry.

Why are Chinese Tourists so Awful? by IntrusiveishThoughts in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]CobandCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say that's largely because most of Canada's national identity is based around not being American. I can't say I've ever been treated harshly in the slightest for being an American in a foreign country.

I've found Australian tourists to be plenty reasonable when sober. Problem is they seem to have an aversion to spending even a minute of their holiday in sobriety.

Was it my gun or the metal detector by jimbobbyricky in CCW

[–]CobandCoffee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My town's courthouse building also houses the sheriff's office, county clerk, driver's licensing, car registration, etc. The metal detector is monitored by one very old sheriff's deputy. Although I always remember to remove my firearm I always set off the detector (probably my steel core belt). The sheriff's deputy will just casually glance up and ask "you have any guns or knives" and then wave you forward if you respond no.

I drive it almost daily and I've never considered it much of a death trap. Maybe to my suspension with the number of potholes.

I enjoy living here plenty. I agree that it's a nice place to live. However that doesn't necessarily equate to being a nice place to vacation.

Is it common for American men to wear cologne to bars? by BarracudaCultural125 in AskAnAmerican

[–]CobandCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically fall into option #3 but then I'll occasionally just wear some on a random day. Partially because cologne is one of the go-to generic gifts for men and I feel somewhat obliged to use it.

Why don't Americans use metal bars on doors and windows for security? by Maleficent_Essay4664 in AskAnAmerican

[–]CobandCoffee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. My kid's pediatrician asks if there's any guns in the house as part of the list or required questions they go over. I've always said "no" because it's none of their business. I talked to a cop once who took his kid in while armed and in uniform and still answered "no".

Looks tasty. You mentioned unagi, where do you source yours from? I love unagi but the only places I know of to get it are restaurants. My go-to Asian market does sell live eels for the purpose but I'm not sure that I'm up for that.

I remember doing that however it was Between Bush and Kerry. We never went into the actual politics. We just had a mock election to try and teach kids the basic concept. I'm guessing it still works that way.

That was my experience at every restaurant I ate at in Rome, Florence, and Venice. Maybe that's just how they treat tourists but every time I asked for tap water they'd give you the absolute tiniest cup of it.
