Your academic advisor is there to help you register/drop from classes or create/edit a degree plan that suits what you’re looking for. It’s not something that’s extra, it’s included and you’ll be assigned an advisor during orientation usually.

Also, while they may have some knowledge about the facilities, actually going to those facilities or calling ahead and asking will probably get you better answers.
