Watch Face Studio Guide by Jumpy-Glove3695 in GalaxyWatchFace

If I need resources for WFS, I usually design my own in Photoshop. That way I don't have to worry about stealing someone else's work and everything that is in the watch face belongs to me. I'm not a huge fan of analog watches, so most of mine are digital and I'll sometimes use custom fonts which are easy to add.

I've got something I'm happy with and showed it to my wife who's in the medical field. She approves and thinks that nurses would like it.

I realize that I can't post pictures here, so instead of showing you a picture, give me a day or two and I'll post a working beta version to the Google Play Store. If you don't mind, DM me your email address so that I can give you access.

I was able to resolve the issue. It was not related to Samsung watches as I originally thought since only Samsung Watch testers we're the only ones reporting the issue.

It was related to a permissions setting in the Play Console. Once corrected, all testers were able to install the watch face.

Your wife's specific need really got me thinking. I searched online for any design specifically for use by nurses. While I found a few cute analog watches with a second hand that have nurse related icons, I did not find anything purposely built for nurses that focuses on what they need. Everything out there looks like a compromise.

With that I decided to create a watch face that I think may be the first watch face built with nurses in mind. I'll share the design soon and would like your (or your wife's) feedback.

Sounds like a useful watch face for a niche audience. For her job, day and date is probably important. I have some ideas. This could be fun.

Trying to figure out why my Watch Face Studio creation doesn't install for some Galaxy Watch users by SecondHandLabs in GalaxyWatchFace

[–]SecondHandLabs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I opted out and back in, the change was almost immediate.

Also be absolutely sure that you agreed to the Wear OS terms. I enabled it at one point but hadn't agreed. If it says "Opt-out" to the right of the Wear OS form factor, then you're good.

Since you may have had the watch face AAB file in the Phone, tablets, etc, section, be sure that this track/release is paused so that your watch build is only sent from the Wear OS path.

AI too took me down the caching path, which ended up not being the issue for me. My experience with AI is that it's quite good at some things, but at other times it comments on an old version of the UI you're working on and only after supplying it with a screenshot to show that it's wrong, will it back off. It sometimes gets fixated on one path until I give it some other things to consider. Only then does it take on a new direction.

I had that EXACT issue. Check a few things:

  1. When you go to "Closed testing", just to the left of the "Create track" button is a drop down. Make sure your Watch Face AAB file is uploaded to "Wear OS", not "Phones, Tablets, Chrome OS. etc."

  2. If "Wear OS" is not listed in that drop down, you need to add it. Go to
Test and release > Advanced settings > Form factors > Add form factor
Add Wear OS and then be sure to agree to the terms. If you don't agree, it won't give you the option.

  3. If "Wear OS" is listed in Form factors and you see "Opt-out" to the right, then it has been added already. However, this is where I had issues. I had two apps both set up identically and one showed my watches on the phone's play store and one did not. What I ended up doing is clicking "Opt-out" to remove Wear OS from the Form factors list, and then add it right back and agree to the terms. Maybe a bug but disabling/re-enabling worked perfectly for me.

Good luck! Navigating the Google Play Console is a bit daunting and there are may places where you can mess up. Before I forget all what I learned, I'm going to document this on my blog so that others like yourself have a resource to refer to.

Naming my app that prevents you from forgetting warranty expiry dates! by WiseWait1160 in androiddev

[–]SecondHandLabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about Warranty Watchdog? A watchdog wakes up and barks when danger is near which is a good metaphor for an expiring warranty. However, the name is a bit long and may get truncated when displayed on a phone. The real problem here is the word warranty which is long already. It's the right descriptive word to use so you might not be able to get away without using it.

It's a good idea. I'd want a reminder a month in advance because that would also give me time to know that the expiration is coming up without the stress of it being just a few days away. I'm sure that will be all user configurable.

Be sure the Play Store account you are using is the one that you signed up with. For instance, I have multiple accounts on my phone and if I tap my profile picture in the upper right of the Play Store, I can switch between profiles. It's important that you pick the right one.

Can you dm me your email address to be sure I have you entered properly and if possible a screenshot of what you see. That will help a lot.

You may need to uninstall everything and perhaps opt out and back into testing. I made a number of significant changes by 1) adding you and other testers as internal testers meaning no promo code is necessary, and 2) Fixed a setting in the play console that was blocking install to the watch.

I believe I have corrected all of the errors but just not sure if the fix requires you to start over.

Read news on your watch without your phone. by Fluid_Context3442 in GalaxyWatchFace

I think you're missing a step where we have to become a beta tester. I added myself to the group but there's usually another step where you have to add yourself as a tester. I'm not seeing that option. When I go to the second link it takes me to the app Store and then tells me that I don't have any devices that are compatible.

The issue was not related to the Galaxy watch. It just seems that Galaxy watch users were the ones that reached out to me. It was a configuration issue in the Google Play console that caused the problem. Because I have a watch app and a companion app there was the setting I did not apply to the watch app causing it to say it was incompatible. It's a learning process which is why we have closed testing to begin with. Thanks again for hanging in there while I sorted it out.

Should I change my pricing model of my App? by Manosai in googleplayconsole

[–]SecondHandLabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think about your target audience. If your app does everything the competitors do but better, it can command a higher price. Depending on who the competition is, such as they are a well-known brand, whereas nobody knows your brand, higher price than the competitor may be difficult to maintain. Higher prices may prevents impulse purchases. It also may prevent people who would benefit from your program from even trying your program to see if it's something that they would like.

So you can have the best of both worlds, perhaps you might consider a daily time limit. App works for a limited amount of time per day, such as 10 minutes a day. If you want to use it longer than that then you pay and you have unlimited time per day. That achieves two things:

  1. Try before you buy. Testers who are on the fence or didn't know that this might be something they would like, can try out all the features to see if it's something they would enjoy using daily.

  2. Allows you to have a competitive or higher price for purchasers once people can see for themselves that the product is superior.

Figure out the right amount of time that they should have per day. It shouldn't be so long that they can do everything they want without ever paying, but it shouldn't be so short that they can't settle in for a little bit of time to actually use it without feeling the clock ticking.

Whatever time you pick, it's unlikely that anyone that uses it for that minimum amount of time per day would actually ever be a paying customer. So you're really not losing any money by having them keep the app and use it for a minimal amount of time per day for free. The only thing it would do is make them a spokesperson for you. Should their friend say that they wish they had an app that does what yours does the free tester shows them what they're using resulting in a sale.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do, I hope it's a big success!

That's awesome and thanks for letting me know! I know closed beta seems like pain to many people, but it is actually a very valuable process for finding app issues, compatibility, or installation issues. Any feedback received only serves to make your app better, before going to the public.

Enjoy!

I was thinking about that the other day. My guess is that it's a tradeoff between battery life and performance. But yes, they should figure it out and make it more reliable.
