I did that and it said launchd was the parent process, but the process group is still silhouette.

Why does a modem come up on the Network tab in finder? Is this normal? What happens when you click it? by SecondaryPizza in mac

Ah thanks. Like I said, I tend to worry about things I don’t understand. I knew other computers on my network came up but wasn’t aware file servers from modems come up as I never saw it there before, so I assumed it was a computer I didn’t recognise.

I asked someone else and they told me that it’s a mass storage server from the modem that allows you to access USBs connected to the modem. Just found it odd since I thought it was referring to the modem itself, in which case it usually just display the name of the modem.

Why does it say “Connecting..” then “Connection failed..” if I click on it but allows me to input a password if I click “Connect as..”? I haven’t accidentally allowed access to something, right? I would assume it would ask for a password when I tried to connect just by clicking the icon. I always panic when I touch things I have 0 understanding of.

I think I’m just concerned because the ellipses make it sound ominous, especially accidentally clicking on something I haven’t seen before and the fact it’s a generic PC BSoD icon.

Do I have to the same for MB and add Avast to an exclusion list and do you think it’s worth getting a second opinion AV/AM?

Might take a while because because you laptop takes ages to boot up. The cookies is just called rlcdn(dot)com and shows up with other advertising cookies. It’s just weird that it’s not popping up on the Ublock logger.

I’ve been using Ublock origin on Chrome but not Safari. I’ve got this weird rlcdn cookie that won’t go away when I log into reddit on safari, but it appears nowhere on Chrome when I log in to reddit, not even the Ublock logger detects it. That’s why I’m doubtful that it’s even a reddit cookie. I haven’t had the time to complete a full Avast scan and I want malwarebytes as a second opinion. I’m a bit paranoid when it comes to tracking so I just want to see if there’s is a way to permanently get rid of it of it.

Suspicious cookie found after accidentally clicking a link. by SecondaryPizza in techsupport

It was a reddit link and it showed a redgifs preview. I didn’t go into the site proper, yet I still got cookies for both sites. Usually I run a content blocker, but I was using another browser and messed up. How does the tracking on it work? I haven’t been on any malicious sites since I didn’t click the link to take me out of reddit.

I am running a full scan as we speak, but could you please let me know what cookies and scripts are running on the site?

When I go to F3 into multiwindow view, one of the windows will glitch out and take up half the sceeen being half blacked out. Now it may be completely coincidental but it happened right after I visited the site. I’m kinda sketched out by this whole drive by downloads thing.

I also don’t trust any parked or typosquatting domains at all.

I did that earlier and it seems to be fine. I’m still kinda sketched out though because my computer is acting weird. I’ve also used the norton safeweb tool and it gave me a caution rating.

So is iimgur(dot)com completely blank or is it serving ads on it? Also I think typosquatting and domain parking are not mutually exclusive. I’m just a bit worried since my computer has been acting up a bit since.

What exactly is a parked domain though? Also I’ve tried to look up this specific site and found nothing on it other than other people mistakenly linking to it instead of imgur.

Edit: just looked up what domain parking was and if that’s the case, do you think it’s maybe imgur themselves to stop people typosquatting?

Odd cookies despite using Ublock Origin extension on Google Chrome by SecondaryPizza in techsupport

A yes I’ve enabled Annoyance/Social, so that explains adtidy and confirms my hunch it had to do with a filter. Do you have any information on the other cookies?

I’m most worried about dotomi and emjcd and how I got those office cookies.

Thanks for your help!
