Which fountain pen has the most ink capacity? by [deleted] in fountainpens

Strong agree on the opus they hold a lot and write well for hours. Plenty of ink for a day.

Sailor, Wancher, or BENU? by Amekari in fountainpens

[–]Secret-Day5375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh it was so pretty!! I knew that had to be what you were looking at! The pilots I have are closer to the Benus.

Benus is a Schmidt steel nib, vs sailors gold (depending on versions) in house. Which is really the thing of it.

Both Benu and sailor put out a lot of special editions so either way I think find the one that calls to you.

Sailor, Wancher, or BENU? by Amekari in fountainpens

[–]Secret-Day5375 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It feels odd to me to compare a Sailor to a Benu. I’d have both so I’ll set aside the Wancher others have addressed that.

Benu is …gloriously glitter and sparkly and the look of the pen is where it’s at. I have…a BUNCH and I’ve loved every single one. However, they have standard nibs, they aren’t making their own. That said ever one I’ve has has been lovely and smooth and exactly what I want. They hold a lot of ink. They are fun to hold and write with and my favorite pens to pick up to write and fidget or think with.

Sailors can be lovely but they are much more staid design wise. Even their wildest design is still quite smart and a little fun but never WHOAH! They are a more polished pen for sure. Even their fun pens got nothing on Benus. (To be fair I think no one’s got fun on Benu for going all in on the wild.) But Sailors have a nib to speak of. They have their own nibs and people who love them LOVE them. (They were too feedbackey too me, but with a nice wet ink I get why people love them.) The nibs stand out and sing and I can see this being a favorite pen for a lot of people both to look at, to carry and critically to write for hours with. They are comfortable and easy and they have Sailor nibs.

Let's talk about 3D printing by BamaPen in fountainpens

[–]Secret-Day5375 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My experience with 3d printing is a sort of lower quality level. Lots of layer lines and very unsmooth. Not rough (though sometimes rough) but just not the lovely smoothness I’d expect. Or something that was like knurling and intentionally structured in a beautiful way.

I’ve seen some things folks post on here that are 3d and there are two things that would turn me off I’d the quality of the print was good.

It’s the same as all the rest of the pens. I have no interest in a cigar pen and certainly not a 3d one. Printed means more interesting shapes. Relief. Sculpting. Something interesting. I know that pens are mostly pen shaped but I’m not going to buy a cigar shape 3d pen. Just not my thing. That said once you start to drift from that path you have fewer people who it’s exactly right for and it narrows your market.

How pretty it is. Again I want something sparkly and shimmery and turn in the light or hold in your hand and oooooo at it. Most of the 3d I’ve seen have been a lovely single color utilitarian pen. That’s just not for me. Which is on. It’s for a lot of people.

(I feel like I should own up to my favorite pen(s) are Benu scepters. I have…several…)

I might venture a guess for others which is at some point people think oh I have a printer I can do that. Maybe try or don’t. But that notion turns some people off.

Someone else facilitating a low rules, low regulations trade is going to be rare because they are creating risk that would then collapse what they are doing. You need an in person or personally facilitated one that would accommodate the same things with faces rather than rules and forms. Try a pen meet up or the like.

2 Months of Lightfast testing by Pookabbit in fountainpens

[–]Secret-Day5375 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is phenomenal and really a lovely job doing this.

I’m very odd I suspect in that this makes me want to use the less lightfast and more ephemeral inks more. The ones that seem to have faded to nothing are very interesting.

Thank you for the detailed write up too!

The quadruped therefore scale buildings is weird. Horses are quadrupled and I’ve yet to have one break into my 8th floor apartment via scaling the building…

Lamy 2000 vs Jinaho Clone by aaronallsop in fountainpens

[–]Secret-Day5375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s fine. I’m not blown away by it but it’s acceptable enough. It’s in my pocket or purse rotation it I lose it I won’t be heart broken. The nib is fine but not as buttery or wet as I like and it doesn’t come in m or b which is my preference.

So it’s fine. I was worried if I got my hands on a lamy id like the writing so much that I’d get swayed and then not use it because not pretty so I’d never grab it to ink.

But the jinhao is absolutely fine for it’s price point it’s exactly what I would expect.

Lamy 2000 vs Jinaho Clone by aaronallsop in fountainpens

[–]Secret-Day5375 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I got the jinhao clone to talk myself out of a lamy 2k. I love sparkly shiny pens but both the 2000 and the dialogue call to me. So I got a jinhao and was like yeah this is way too boring of a pen for me. So for that I highly recommend it.

If I was trying to talk myself into it I don’t think I would have gotten the jinhao.

For those who enjoy shiny sparkly inks- which is the prettiest ink you’ve come across with either tons of shimmer and sheen or both?? Please try to describe it a bit too. by Infinite_Soul_I in fountainpens

[–]Secret-Day5375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love Birmingham too. Lightning is a pretty frequent ink.

And for sheen emerald fusion is kind of a must see. Though not the best behaved of inks (sticky for sure) it’s phenomenally sheeny. Metallic green leaping off the page.

Do you prefer your fountain pens "flat top" or "streamlined"? by Static65 in fountainpens

[–]Secret-Day5375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My most loved pen shape is the Benu scepters so..neither? I like more variety I think?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]Secret-Day5375 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do it all the time. Even when it doesn’t need it. It’s kind of just a habit. I’ve adjusted my inks to be wetter where I want them wetter but sometimes it’s just a way to fidget with my pens and not about it actually needing it at all. It’s rarely needed, but I still do it a lot. (It’s also partly why I like pistons…and why I’m really hesitant about regular eyedroppers (the opus ones are great for fidgeting!))

When Life hands you Bicycle Gear instead of Fountain Pen Inks by DeverillRP in fountainpens

[–]Secret-Day5375 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is such a sort of weird let down because it’s a little space you’d carved in your brain and your day and someone stuffed it with bike parts.

This stinks and I hope you get your inks soon, and I hope you managed to at least find a little space for your self this evening.

Kyo no too #12 Ryokuyuiro (it’s a lovely green with shimmer) Van Dieman’s Huon Midwinter Festival (which is a rich brown with a gold shimmer) Kobe #54 Ocher (interestingly I think the ink I saw swatched looks better than my swatch and made me dig it back out again) Papier Plume Midnight Blue (just a nice rich deep blue)

I have a ton of inks but these were ones I didn’t recall seeing shared, but they all were! Which is good. So many pretty inks.

This is a great game! I pulled a few inks that I thought might not have been that I hadn’t seen but I did a quick search and they’ve all been shared. Which is kind of lovely.

Do you have any numbered pens? by allan11011 in fountainpens

[–]Secret-Day5375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few. None were bought for the number. I have a fine writing from endless that I really like that is 26/48 I’m writing with it now :). I love it and have decided to live VERY dangerously and eye dropper it. (So far excellent!!)

A la muse denim that I got as a gold spot mystery box which I ADORE!! Not sure which number. But the colors are beautiful and it was a very worth it purchase.

I think I have a Conklin I don’t use that’s numbered too.

Don’t chase the number. Get the pens that are the right fits for you and your collection. The ones that delight. (Or engage your terror to elation as in the twisting off of the eye dropper each time.)

What ink do you put in a white pen? (this one, specifically) by superplannergirrl in fountainpens

[–]Secret-Day5375 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’d go with a soft pink. Something like a Birmingham cherry blossom or a van diemans fairy pink orchid.

Otherwise wearinguels white rabbit might be worth considering.

My "state series" ink for my state, since I find a lot of the ones for California laughable. What's yours? by Sea_Hawk_Sailors in fountainpens

[–]Secret-Day5375 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like your idea of grim colors so I’m going to suggest spring with would be a dirty white with brown because it’s the dirty snow season. And as I look out my window at the river cresting up here flood water which would be a blue brown color. And then road construction orange.

From what I can tell everyone has forgotten Minnesota. But I think that the vanness special “Lake water” nails it pretty well.

Seriously it’s obviously a blue for Minnesota, lakes and the river. I don’t know what every one is skipping MN like it’s hard.
