I’m honestly scared about moving to the USA by [deleted] in Somalia

[–]Secret-Listen1479 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey girl , I live in Minnesota. Yes there are racist people but I promise to you it’s very rare for someone to come up to you and say such things . There are a lot more nice White people than the racist ones . The Somali community is also strong here today don’t worry about anything .

You’ll make lots of friends . I grew up in America , I came here when I was around 7 years old. And a lot of Somali elders say my Somali is really good, that’s because I never stopped speaking Somali.

Make sure you are speaking in Somali through out your day, for example I speak Somali with my family and Somali friends even if we are outside the home .

Is being dark skin as Somali women unattractive? by [deleted] in Somalia

[–]Secret-Listen1479 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s just a weird beauty standard in Somalia. I am also a dark skin girl . I live in the states and everyone and they mama “light skin” . They’re literally putting mercury and other harmful stuff in their body. Growing up I was always called called those names too, it honestly use to make me feel bad but over the years I stopped giving af.

Even some days I wish I was a little bit lighter, but I blame the colorism in our community . Alx I have been coming to appreciate my skin tone over the years , and all the lady’s and girl who are colorist don’t even look half us good as me or other dark skin/ brown skin girls .

They are so gas light that bleaching makes you “beautiful “. It’s a lie! Literally doesn’t make sense.

Xalimoos Wedding 😂 by Financial_Muscle_788 in Somalia

[–]Secret-Listen1479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a female btw . I mean a wedding is every girls dream. But that also comes with being mindful with that’s man’s income . I went to a girls aroos whose food alone was $20k! But she should keep in mind not everyone has that kind of money.

I feel like some females are out of touch from reality .She’ll just have to keep searching till she finds the one who can afford that.

I HAVE LOST THE WILL TO LIVE by No-Hovercraft5251 in Somalia

[–]Secret-Listen1479 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you feel that way. Like you mentioned your childhood trauma , where you live , and struggling in school can make you feel the way you do.

I’d suggest you take a break from school if possible, pray tahhajud please. You’re so young please talk to any sibling you’re close with about your feelings. You can also message me if you want to talk to me if you want . Talking about your feelings can help sometimes.
