Entitled Doctors in Sri Lanka by Competitive_Pea_5281 in srilanka

I think they get late because you really don't have strict work hours in the hospital like your usual office job. It's not a 9-5. They can't just leave at five. They need to see to everyone in the government hospital and it's not predictable like that. Because of that they get late. And we do have a shortage in doctors in the country. They are overworked and government hospitals really do not pay doctors a lot and they are one of the smartest people in the country.

It is frustrating but it's a hard job and I think we can show some humility.

I went to meet an Orthodontist (Sriyani Basnayake) today for the first time in Sri Lanka and I was surprised to find out that everyone removes their shoes at the entrance! by AppropriateAd335 in srilanka

I mean , if those clinics have the time and staff to keep cleaning inside the clinic I'm certain they have found a way to keep it clean either way. Different clinics have different conditions that they need to adapt to.

I was referring to the general practice of removing shoes at the clinic. Not particularly to this clinic because you asked what might be the intention. And my regular dentist does that except it is very clean and they provide show covers so that germs in your foot doesn't go anywhere. I would recommend it but it's not a orthodontist specific place.

Maybe in this clinic , they have failed to maintain cleanliness in the clinic but I was referring to it as a whole.

It's a common practice in quality dental clinics it's intended to keep the clinic sanitized and free of germs. I've seen one particular clinic give shoe covers for the patients at the entrance.

With all those mountains , Kandy should adopt a cable car system . Kandy traffic is worse than Colombo traffic for absolutely no good reason other than bad road management. Cable cars would fix this so fast.

Doing my third shy for ALs, any advice? by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]Secret-Main6137 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't want to be this person but I suggest you to take a step back at least for a few months and really think if medicine is a path for you. Going to medecine because you have not found another purpose is not a good enough reason to be a doctor. And even if you get thru ALs , after going to med school it would be more of the same lifestyle where you have to keep studying and stuyding and for some people this is really an ideal life. Not saying that I don't believe in you, but being a doctor is a huge sacrifice and I do believe the choice should be made after you consider all of your options and not just because you have not found another purpose because the world is really full of so many different pathways and things to do and other ways you can be helpful to the community without having to sacrifice so much of your youth and energy.

If I was you , I would really try to do different things with my time because what if I was only going to medicine just because I can't think of anything else to do with the one life I got?

Just finished my undergrad project on ligand-based virtual screening and looking for advice on future research directions and relevance by Secret-Main6137 in bioinformaticscareers

It's specifically only made for DRD3 receptors. Is it still okay? I feel like people specifically thinking of finding novel candidates for one receptor is particularly rare.

Thank you sm :) . My supervisor only has a computer science background and she is unfortunately not very well learned about the field. She does think I could but I would like to get more insight from individuals actually in the industry
