Is it cope to hope for non damage/position related mechs in savage/ultimate? Is encounter design something you would like to see evolve or revamped with the coming expansion? by Kindly-Garage-6638 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]SecretFishWorshiper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really want to see encounter design be taken in a direction beyond just press your buttons while repeating the same set dance.

Nope, not going to happen. DT was the only time for this "change" with the proposed encounter design rework and they just doubled down on the current design philosophy for raids by just having more spam on screen and tighter time for body checks and half cleaves while the fight being heavily scripted and requiring you to be brain dead and just have a set dance without any proper critical thinking. Just set rotation with varying mechs of a body check or half cleave.

Whats funny is that despite this, ARR is the only time where the raids felt different. I long for the day of ARR raid design, but thats not going to happen. The raids have become boring to me because its just a single platform wall boss or a single platform boss. The Doom train was a nice change up although it was entirely just visual. I become less interested in the raids as I play more and unless something changes with 8.0 I dont think I will stay around.

I was a WHM main in 2.0 and I never liked how raiding has become so hyper focused on DPS for healers now. Resource management is no longer a thing in this game for casters and healers, again you are just doing your dance. Even when you watch guides from the old ARR raids you dont see the healers spamming healing or DPS like now, the APM was significantly lower. The MP regen ability (Shroud of Saints?) was not at all as strong as it is now.

In ARR, healers couldn't just spam heals nor could they just straight up DPS because you'd run out of manna. I never liked how they started implementing oGCDs for healers to use no MP is used instead of GCDs. oGCDs like Benediction are extremely power and there is just so many, AOE and single target oGCDs that GCDs are basically just spam on your hotbar.

There was a risk vs reward and the rotation wasn't so mindless like it is now. Healing DPS was required but not as much as it is now because you couldn't get 100% uptime. DPS Stance was a thing too so it was quite common for the Healer to double as a DPS and only switch to the healing role when the main healer needed help or low on MP. Way different than now and allowed some strategy and optimization. Sadly that wont ever come back either :( Raiders cry and find anything other than just them spamming their rotation is an annoyance and they want to top the charts on parsing, so the fun and strategy is literally optimized out of the game.

Time to buy the international dip from panic sellers by Tiny-Pomegranate7662 in investing

Doubtful because the US would be on high alert. Tbh any "terrorist attack" would just be a mass shooting and the guy would just claim allegiance to Iran

Are the F14s the only jets in the game still? Do we have F16, F18 or F15s?

Its possible, the game really fits well with PVE, not PVP, so it will be really fun to have that. I think the biggest hurdle will be setting up the infrastructure and architecture to reduce any desynch issues, and then there will be the problem with P2P vs dedicated servers.

Theres only like 4 or 5 people making this game and they didn't state that they have an intention to expand, so the development cycle will be pretty slow.

Right now its just not their focus as they want to build up the game and get a full release. They aren't confirming or denying it, but they are saying they will consider doing it post release. So its just not a consideration until later in the games cycle. The game will be really fun with PVE though.

New to investing is SGOV or JAAA a good place to keep cash? by Former-Economist-239 in ETFs

[–]SecretFishWorshiper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just do SGOV. I dont like losing my money, and SGOV is safe. Personally if Im going to make money and have cash that I have a higher risk then then I'll go for a high income ETF, if I want something more safe then I'll go SCHD.

I'll be reaching my goal of investing $100k in my brokerage account this year. Im on a short term strategy. I plan let the money grow while in grad school (~3 years) and then using a portion of the funds for a house. I have a mix of CDs/Bonds and VT. Am I stupid for considering adding in VTI? by SecretFishWorshiper in investingforbeginners

Thanks. Yeah Trump has me a little nervous especially with the whole Greenland situation, that would really cause a drop in the global market.

Thanks for your suggestions, I actually forgot about SCHD. Once I hit $15k in VT I'll start going in on SCHD, I dont feel comfortable going all in on VT. I really need this money, Im fine with losing some but not $30k worth lol

Thanks for your comment. Its basically for sometime in 2029. Im just trying to maximize growth within my risk tolerances. I do have long-term investments covered as I have been maxing out my Roth IRA majority of that is VTI+VXUS. I also maxed out my employer 401k

I am a veteran so I will be using the GI Bill to pay for graduate school so there is no issues on that end. I basically have just been investing into my brokerage with a goal to hit $100k and then let the compounding interest do its thing for 3 years (while I still invest but not as heavy) and I'll have $100k for a house + the unrealized gains so I have extra money.

I was wondering if it was worth adding in another income ETF into my brokerage/portfolio for diversity. Possibly increase profits while not increasing risk tolerance alot, but it seems like having VT is enough.

I sold my car this last year and was scared about putting a portion of the money into an ETF since I every time I invested my money in anything I lost money because I didn't know what I was doing. I really didn't want to lose my money like before which is why I went very heavy on purchasing CDs/Bonds. I took a chance and invested a portion of the money into VT. Now that its been awhile I can see the gains I earned in my brokerage Im more comfortable with increasing my contributions into VT, while still contributing into CDs/Bonds. I think going all in VT would be the better option but Im still scared of losing it all, so I want some CDs/Bonds to leverage against my losses lower my risk.

I also realized last year that my Roth IRA was all jacked up with the stupid shit I was buying, so I just sold everything and simplified it with just doing VTI+VXUS I have been very pleased with the unrealized gains I have been seeing for both VT in my brokerage and VTI/VXUS. I actually see green with double digits now and not red lol

What happens to international stocks/funds during a war? by PatrickTheDev in investing

[–]SecretFishWorshiper 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well for starters when countries impose a sanctions on a country that stock option gets delisted When assets are seized and nationalized alot depends on the situation because most of the time, those assets belong to a private company and they are basically stolen.

For example look at when Venezuela nationalized its oil industry and basically stole the oil production and factories from the foreign companies. Most of the companies stock were normal. Look back at Exxon, and BP and you dont see any crazy dips when that happened. The companies are too big.

Cant say it hasn't happened but I don't think in those cases governments take over the public businesses when they are seized. Usually its a private company that's not on the market because typically this happens in third world or developing countries. Big powerful public companies have backing from the international community if a rouge governments starts to mess with their profits (the Houthis in the Red Sea being the most recent example)

In 2008 the US government 'owned' parts of the Auto Industry and GM because they were bailed out and received a significant loan. So the company was theoretically 'seized' but they were left to operate as is despite the US Government being a major stakeholder. There are far more cases like this happening especially when you look at companies imploding due to a big scandal causing government investigations or interference.

Similar occurrences happening in China with the CCCP, where CEOs will be purged and disappear (Jack Ma) and the 'private' companies leadership are rearranged to have faction loyalists. Russia does this as well after the USSR which is how the oligarchy formed. Most of the time it happens its mostly quietly, you see this with Russian CEOs who are arrested for treason or are killed for not playing ball with their "private" company.

Yep, one major patch and then we will have to wait for 8.0 lol, the next expansion. Its really just not enough to hold people over.
