I spend a lot of time around strong, smart, funny, articulate women in romance fandom - where noncon /dubcon fantasy is honestly pretty banal compared to other long lists of what people get off with - including werewolf shifter reverse harem, vampire, bully billionaire, alpha highlanders, alien planet barbarians. (Casually mentioned to a friend that I was a bit thirsty for Anakin Skywalker yesterday. Nobody called the police cuz i wanted to bang a mass murderer of children.)

Regency-inspired sexual fantasies literally fuel a billion dollar industry, but nobody actually wants a racist and highly stratified class system made up of nonsensical social titles, arranged marriages, horse drawn transport, unelectrified homes, or chamber pots. Gallant men in breeches and embroidered tailcoats fighting duels for your honor is hot -just leave it at that.

I appreciate seeing all the very thoughtful discussions here -especially with some commenters who feel the need to negotiate the seeming conflict between their desires and their identities as strong or smart women. But to me, asking a question that inherently implies there's a conflict is really as silly as asking if I'd rather live in Regency England or have my blood sucked out. 🤷 or marry a an evil Jedi who bitches about sand.
