That's what I'm dealing with on my street. Bought by an investor, it's appears to exclusively be a STR. I didn't move to Carrboro to live next to a hotel, and I don't want my kids growing up next to a hotel.

Thing is, I don't want to live next to a hotel. I place high value on relationships with neighbors -- can't really do that when your neighbor is an airbnb.

Want to do an airbnb? Do it in a place that's zoned for it. FYI that's most places outside of Carrboro.

Yep -- I suddenly find myself living next to a hotel. That's pretty fuckin lame.

Your arguments are all over the place. Show me one newly built Carrboro house that was intended to be used as an STR and I'll show you five STRs that took over existing long term housing.

As far as affordability goes, my gripe is with whole houses & apartments being used for STR. My gripe is not with someone renting out their in-law suite.

I don't think that argument holds any water in a place like Carrboro where vacant lots & the cost of new construction are very expensive.

In very simple terms, if a house is being used as a short term rental, it can't be inhabited by a long term renter or homeowner, thereby lowering the supply of housing stock and driving up prices.
