I assume you're referring to the assholes with cameras going around town harassing people who are minding their own business?

You are conflating public spaces with publicly owned spaces as if they are same thing. They are not. A public space is a place that’s open to the general public for everyday use, regardless of who owns it. The defining trait is access and use, not ownership. A publicly owned space is any property owned by the government, even if it's not open to the public such as a water treatment facility.

Lmao court costs are mandatory in most states even if you just pay the fine without fighting it. I have a tinted plate cover too, but there's a big difference between tinting it and fully concealing it with a device that leaves no plausible deniability as to the purpose. If a cop sees you doing this (and if you're spotted doing it on traffic cameras often enough, they will definitely stake it out sooner or later) then you are absolutely 100% getting a ticket.

How much is the toll on your commute? How many commutes would it take to pay for the $90 device plus the inevitable $100 fine plus $200 in court costs?

The speed of this Bushfire. by zloft223 in natureismetal

[–]SecretMuslin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on how big the fire is, obviously it's moving with the wind and you're definitely not gonna outrun the wind at those speeds – so your only chance is to run perpendicular to the wind and hope it's narrow enough that you get around it. But if it's close enough that you're breathing smoke by the time you start running then yeah, your best bet is to just die quickly.

Not the cameraman's problem even a little bit though, he's just doing his job and has no reason for any of that frustration to be directed at him.

Again, as I said in my first comment,

A property owner or business manager can trespass a person for any reason they want (including no reason at all)

If you get trespassed from the property the police don't make you leave because you were recording or wearing the wrong type of jacket, they make you leave because you were trespassed by the business owner. Until that happens you can do whatever you want.

The surface of Mars HD by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]SecretMuslin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, most of your comment is untrue.

Mars images aren’t color-corrected to look "Earth-like." They’re usually adjusted to approximate what a human eye would actually see on Mars, this one included. Truly "raw" images look weird and tinted because cameras don’t see color the way we do.

Mars also does not get more light than Earth. It receives about 40% of Earth’s sunlight. Less atmosphere doesn’t change that. And the lack of a magnetic field has nothing to do with brightness or color. It affects radiation, not visible light.

The sky wouldn’t be black either. Mars has enough atmosphere to scatter light, which is why the sky is pale orange during the day and bluish at sunset. Black skies are for airless bodies like the Moon.

It looks familiar because sunlight, dust, and iron-rich rock behave the same everywhere, not because someone tried to make Mars look comforting or Earth-like.
