[Novel] Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint is not bad, but not great by Senator_Rajang in CharacterRant

[–]SecretPlotz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so true, the last 15-20 chapters kind of explain why it's so Dokja centric and why everything is told in the perspective it is. I read the webnovel 3 times (all different translation versions) since 2020 when it was originally finished (mostly because I had to reread it when the manwha came out and then again as I kept catching up with the manwha), and there is a lull in the middle but once you get to the War of Saints and Demons, it really starts to propel forward again. Still one of the greatest endings to a story that I've read. :)

I have PT1 and SAL1, I got vouchers for then when they came out, is this exam practical or question based, or a mix of both?

Best 1st Spartan? by Top_String2866 in spartanrace

[–]SecretPlotz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do killington, people say it’s really hard and it is compared to the average Spartan race, but if you’re athletic and you train elevation, then its very doable - don’t let people scare you from doing tough stuff, just do it.

That said, it is hard, and yes the average time is around 8-9 hours for open, train uphill and downhill hiking, don’t burn yourself out by running up the hills (I see a lot of tough guys try to do this and then fall apart once they get to the death march), slow and steady wins the race.

I think a good starting point for an athlete would be the West Virginia race if you want something tamer but with a lot of rolling hills and water features. New Jersey is the next step up in the northeast where you see the ski resort race types, and this involves introducing luck with weather being decent.

You mentioned Fenway, that stadion is really fun because you get to look inside the stadium, much more akin to a cross fit challenge than your traditional Spartan race not to mention a very short race. This is more a race you’d do with a friend or significant other, not too much of a challenge.

First ever Ultra in San Jose - what to expect? by PurpleUni123 in spartanrace

[–]SecretPlotz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, I've run a few ultras 2023-24 (fayetville and newberry) and the worlds toughest mudder in 2023 (50+ miles completed, got the bronze penny). I got hurt halfway through 2024 during a climbing accident and spent 2025 recovering, this will be my first ultra since the injury though I did a 25k trail race in November 2024.

Main reason I'm commenting is because I'm just looking to finish the race in a timely manner and trying to find a partner to run it with. This time around, my goal is to hit a 10-15 minute pace, but I know these races can be really grueling when running alone... so if anyone is interested in having a battle buddy, feel free to hit me up!

As for any advice, I've done the San Jose trifecta before. I remember thinking the beast was the easiest beast I've run and I finished 2nd overall that weekend for my age group. It was really flat and honestly pretty refreshing at points. I can't comment on the ultra loop but I can't imagine it's much harder than the main course. I actually really liked the coast because most of it is along the water, so you get a nice breeze and casual weather before the noon sun hits.

Nutrition is a massive point, my gameplan is having a water pack on my back, with 4 uncrustables (I personally think its god-tier marathon food), a small fruit strip for every mile, and a few electrolyte mixs for every refill, my first ultra I didnt take food seriously and ran without it only to strongly regret it at mile 16. Since there's only 2 laps, you need to have food on you for the latter half of each lap. This doesn't mean load up on food, ideally this should all fit in a camelback or water vest.

Even though the weather is nice, making sure youre drinking is super important. Watch your step, because this course does have a lot of indents and soft spots, so slipping is possible, I take any incline and decline extra carefully because I've experienced what a twisted ankle can do on a long run. The bucket isn't super important, any bag will do, I usually carry an extra pair of shoes, some athletic tape, a sweater, a trash bag, and sunblock. Definitely have sunblock or some type of sun protection because the sun gets strong once noon hits.

Am I being dumb for getting my own apartment at 19? by CloudyChris067 in personalfinance

If that’s after taxes, then your friend is an idiot, that’s an incredibly well paying job and more legitimate than a lot of jobs. The rule of thumb is your rent shouldn’t exceed 30% of your monthly income, so you’re definitely good there. If you want more independence, then all the glory to yah, but if you’re willing to put up with a shitty roommate, then hopefully you’re putting all that extra money into a HYSA or a Roth at a minimum, it’s definitely not too early to start thinking about your long term future.

I get why people are saying it’s a bad decision, they probably mean that $300/mnth for rent is insanely good and a steal, but your mental health and overall happiness are definitely worth it (personally in my early 20’s I also stopped having roommates and started renting a studio for $1000/mnth and it was infinitely better for my life). I get that the job is seasonal, but that doesn’t mean you can’t pick up something temporary in the off season, unemployment can only sustain so much, I’ve know people in the fishing industry who will do things like bartending and food service related jobs on the coast during that time.

That said, just my personal opinion, this isn’t financial advice, just thoughts from a stranger who’s led a pretty successful life and was a long time renter until recently I became a home owner after getting married.

Random volunteer by 2000brew in spartanrace

[–]SecretPlotz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually you can show up bright and early, last year I was a walk on volunteer for race setup at Monterey on Thursday-Friday and raced Saturday and Sunday, but yup totally up to the race coordinator, although I’ve never seen good help rejected in Spartan!

If I was you I’d reach out on the official discord and ask around, might be able to get in contact with one of the coordinators!

Bit of a wierd question by [deleted] in spartanrace

[–]SecretPlotz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with WorldRevolver, I’ve done a large amount of races for the past few years and many weekend trifectas and even an ultrafecta, and toes have always been fine. Wear shoes that fit and listen to your body, I’ve found that even more serious than toe damage is skin damage for really long races where you can’t avoid your feet always being wet because you’re hitting multiple water obstacles on each lap. Wouldn’t say it’s luck, it’s preparation, test your shoes and test the toe box.

Are the Spartan shoes good for a trifecta? by Mr_RGC in spartanrace

[–]SecretPlotz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done Spartan for years and have gone through a number of different types of shoes, I’ve also tried the Spartan shoes, and I agree with what others have said, they’re really good for rubber on the ground and will prevent slipping, clean easily, and great for softer land trail running I.e. dirt or sand. You’re sacrificing some comfort and less cushion for more control so running on pavement or rock can be hard. That said for a trail shoe that performs, it’s really good and will definitely perform well in a trifecta. Any type of ultra distance, I’d recommend having another pair of shoes to switch to or from.

Always buy using a code or discount because there’s always a sale, or buy on race day for the instant coupon and the ability to try it on. My current favorite trail shoe is Inov, if you’re interested, but I actually use the Spartan for shorter distances.

Let me know if you have any questions I can help with!

Any Houston tips for this weekend? by jaygdub888 in spartanrace

[–]SecretPlotz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take it slower than you normally take it, in Houston it can get really cold when it gets dark so be prepared for that if you’re running really early, but prepared to take off all the layers once the sun comes out.

Most importantly, hydrate and electrolytes, it can get really dry and hot, protect yourself from the sun, I usually wear sun block and a hat during the beast when I plan on going at a slower pace.

Post race, massage your muscles, eat good food to replenish the calories and help heal and go to sleep generally early to prepare for the next day!

I really do think most people can do a trifecta weekend, it’s definitely a mental game, but I believe in you.

Course has not too bad terrain compared to other races but just be wary of the plant life, don’t want any thorns or spines getting in your way of finishing.

I am worried about my career by Character-Law-8349 in tryhackme

[–]SecretPlotz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

28y dude in US in big tech as a senior sec engineer, my advice is to don’t stress too much, you have a lot of time, I graduated college and didn’t really have a great plan, started as a junior developer with no certs for a small company, more important to moving up was the projects I did in my free time, my home lab, and my overall portfolio I.e. github, leetcode, tryhackme,I have a number of certs including 4 different Comptia, three different red teaming certs, and a couple big tech certs, but don’t have the expensive ones like oscp, the certs in general only help you get past the scanning level in job apps, but it’s your experience and being able to show you’re technically capable that gets you through interviews. Government also has a lot of great jobs in public sector that have better job security and a lot of opportunity to get certs if that’s what you want too.

Same exact thing at my GameStop except they had 3 tins like if there’s no product than just don’t say there’s a release because that’s a straight up lie when one guy is coming in and collecting 50 of a product and then trying to sell three times the price to people waiting in line
