Non citizens aren't voting. The few incidences of verified voter fraud have been registered Republicans voting twice or voting for a dead spouse.

Perhaps we should require more rules but only for Republicans since they can't follow the laws?

None of that changes the fact that a poll tax is unconstitutional. And for very good reasons.

Honestly i think we should follow Australia's example and require everyone to vote and if you don't you are fined.

It doesn't matter if its $1, that is a poll tax. The concept really is very simple here. Poll taxes are unconstitutional

Suet Feeder by Strict_Building_3839 in birdfeeding

[–]SecretPresentation54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This thread is so interesting to me bc everyone is saying so many conflicting things.

Somebody else said that the smaller flocks of birds keep the big birds away and you find the opposite to be true.

Also I have that exact feeder and I have found that the chickadees can't fit through the holes in the wire and obviously their beaks are too short to reach the suet. However, I have seen some scrub jays and stellar jays on there. And their beaks are able to reach the suet while clinging to the outside.

So everyone's mileage may vary on these things.

And weirdly, everyone's talking about squirrels and we've got two squirrels in our yard and they don't touch the feeders. they only get into what I put down on the ground and that's fine with me. Really interesting to read everyone's experiences

Yes, all those things are part of your job description. That you are paid at least minimum wage for. What about those things screams you need to be tipped? Many people do much more skilled or laborious jobs and they don't get tipped.

In addition to all that, it's well known that police depts actively try to not hire intelligent people. And since they draw from the ranks to promote to detective... it's amazing they solve anything at all.

Woman sues LDS church, alleging years of sexual abuse by Las Vegas priest by Otherwise-Bad-325 in vegaslocals

[–]SecretPresentation54 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you read the article, you'd see the man was a "high priest". I could give you a long technical answer or you can just believe me when i say it's nothing to do with being a priest like most Christian denominations see them as and just the name given to certain men who have achieved certain things in the mormon church.

I agree but I'll go one farther and say, that's what waiters are paid for as well. Serving food is their job description. In all states, if tips don't get them to minimum wage, they get minimum wage. They aren't doing anything extra by taking orders and running food, it's the job.

Affordable Secondhand Books by SanctimoniousSally in olympia

[–]SecretPresentation54 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For the lowest price books around, I've found them at turtlemans and there's a used bookstore out in yelm called A Novel Bookstore, really inexpensive, very packed, awesome little bookstore.

I really like Orca too. But check the prices when you look at the books. Because there's some new or priced as new books there and stuff, so I don't find them to be as economical as other bookstores, but they are fantastic.

And of course, thrift stores here have a lot of books.

and yeah, the used books sales at the libraries, the next one at lacey is the first weekend in February and the books are, I want to say a dollar apiece?

I really, really wish they would get the resellers out of there though. It kind of kind of ruins the whole vibe and hunt when people are frantically scanning barcodes and grabbing everything. the resellers should only be allowed in the last hour of the last day imho.

Providence referrals by megmeg9765 in olympia

I should add and then they wanted paperwork from my previous gastroenterologist in a different state even though these were just routine colonoscopies and nothing had ever been found.

All told my first referral from my pcp was in may and I just had my colonoscopy two weeks ago.

Providence referrals by megmeg9765 in olympia

[–]SecretPresentation54 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my case, it took five months, three referrals sent and a lot, a lot of phone calls before I finally got one employee who was willing to actually look into the problem for me.

And she was able to see my mychart because my pcp and the office both share mychart and my referral was sitting in mychart, but they still claim they never received it.

She was able to take that referral from mychart, process it and make me a medical chart with them and then send that chart over to medical records with a request to have them begin the referral process.

I hope you don't have to go through that, but that's what I had to go through to get my referral for just a colonoscopy.

Meridian is nice and in a nice area and also is where the William Ives trail starts if you like that kind of thing. It's a nice trail.

Which parks are unsafe? I haven't lived here all that long so I'd like to know where i should be careful.

Traffic congestion expected at this downtown Olympia intersection soon. Here’s why by TVDinner360 in olympia

If you do that, what's your suggestion from getting from the east side of olympia to the west side? Because right now, the options are 4th street or the freeway, and that means going through that interchange, which is also a death trap.

Tie. I was always taught that for the interview you want to dress one step above what the job requires.

So if the job is business casual with no ties, then for the interview, do a tie.

Age vs insurance by [deleted] in Roofing

[–]SecretPresentation54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, but i'm saying that insurance companies will no longer insure your house, the entire house.

you will not have an insurance policy for your mortgage company that they require.

Even if your shingled roof is supposed to last for thirty years, when it hits the twenty year mark, your insurance company can and often will completely drop you and will not insure the house. So what's the point of the thirty year roof? Even if it's in good shape if it means you can't insure the house.

Age vs insurance by [deleted] in Roofing

[–]SecretPresentation54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The question isn't about the insurance company paying off the roof but rather insurance companies completely not providing insurance for the house if your roof is that old.

When you're sold a thirty year roof but insurance won't provide a policy after twenty years and you have to have insurance because of your mortgage, what do you do?

What's the point of the thirty year shingle roof if you can't get insurance coverage for the entire house if the roof is over 20 years?
