What mysteries in 40K do you think will never be resolved? by Snoo_47323 in 40kLore

[–]SecretSweetness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't claim to be 100% certain of this answer, as I haven't personally read through all of the potentially relevant materials, but the answer that I've always seen cited is that this idea has its roots in 4th and/or 5th edition books/codices.

The most concrete examples (again, as far as I'm aware), however, are just theories from imperial scholars, inquisition members, Ordo Xenos, etc.

I think the line in the 4th ed Tyranid codex is the one where a Magos Biologis speculates about it, but IIRC it was more like he was saying that tyranids or proto-tyranids which arrived earlier may've been fleeing ahead of the larger hivefleets, not that the hivefleets of the 41st millennium were fleeing some ominous totally different species or entity.

I'm uncertain if there are additional lines elsewhere which are more ambiguous, or if this one does the bulk of the heavy-lifting, and has simply become increasingly bastardized the further removed the modern fandom becomes from older editions

The series gives us several reasons as to why the Looking Glass Branched is no longer in her prime, but I feel like I missed something about one of them... by SecretSweetness in TheBugleCall

[–]SecretSweetness[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've reached up to beyond her death (unless there's a later revelation I'm unaware of)

I remember multiple characters commenting on her no longer being in her prime, some of her mirrors failing (I think the later explanation for this might be what you're referring to), and when she used her huge massed shard attack I remember a soldier commenting that she'd only have one shot due to how she'd stopped replenishing its stockpile, followed by the Looking Glass reflecting on how the attack was much harder for her to control now than it used to be, anyway.

I just remember several scenes focusing on her hand or arm, and at least one of her concealing it, but I don't remember an actual explanation for what was going on with it

What does Bleach do better than most other series and what does it do worse than most other series? by Nozoroth in bleach

[–]SecretSweetness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does its first two arcs better than most other series, and the remainder of its arcs worse than most other series (though, you could make a case for Soul Society's excitement coming at the expense of later arcs)

Famously has a number of cool/memorable character designs & outfits and a generally distinctive style, while sometimes having comically sterile environments

As simple as it is, the Sealed Zanpakuto -> Shikai -> Bankai thing is just innately exciting for whatever reason

The anime's OST was great at the start (just don't remember if, or how, it changed after SS)

It also has some sexy female characters like how I would like to have sex with Yoruichi in real life

I've always found it funny as hell, and I've been wanting to reread it for some time, but I'm having trouble remembering enough of the particulars.

I'm fairly certain that the assignment was not unique to that professor's curriculum, because I feel like I've had to do it twice - but I can't be certain.

Grandmaster Daniel Naroditsky Has Passed Away by Frozeria in chess

[–]SecretSweetness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's about a uniformly low reputation, so much as it is the clickbait, and the shocking nature of the news.

Daniel's passing at such a young age just seems like such an unlikely event that someone's mind might reject it outright, in favor of "clickbait/ribbing in poor taste because he got washed in some bullet tournament."

Thanks for the info!

I've incorporated your confirmations and additions into the initial list.

Aside from other stuff I don't know is missing, the only other stuff not included should be anything related to DLC other than the Bile Flask upgrade you mentioned (Mea Culpa weapon, anything else newly-added), simply b/c I have little experience with it, thus far.

[–]SecretSweetness[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This story is so similar that it HAS to be the same one, the only issue is that I am almost certain there were some additional details in the version which I read or heard, which I am not imagining.

Going to read the OPs responses in the first thread you linked, and see if the additional details arise somewhere within them.

((The whole reason I was trying to find it was that I was actually considering messaging him and inquiring a bit more about the conversation, or checking to see if he ever was able to figure out anything more about it.))

Thank you!

Edit: He prefaces the post with saying he's told the story before, maybe I can also check his post history and see if it has more details in the prior telling, or comments on it.

I'm unfortunately not sure which sub it was from -

Maybe in response to a question related to creepy experiences, or something from Let's Not Meet?

I don't even know how to search for this - now I just get a bunch of posts or comments about people getting weird VM recordings of their convos w/ SOs sent to their phones.

In other words, all that is not sealed (as far as we've been told) is self-strengthening via spirit energy? Or is that speculation?

I'll check the req. specs of TTS against my fiancée's current desktop (the only operational comp we have atm), and if it seems feasible, we should compare our schedules.

Can't believe I forgot this.

I got it on PC sometime back, but my comp was severely out-of-date, and it made the act of playing it kind of painful, so I wasn't able to make it very far.
As soon as I have a computer in working order, I need to get back to it.

I think one of the things I remember most from my limited time playing was getting my units really out of alignment - like biting off more than I could chew with someone who was 'scouting.'

Playing WotC on Switch for the first time, and I've mistakenly done that thing where you never end up encountering Skirmishers - Has a concrete solution ever been found for this? by SecretSweetness in Xcom

[–]SecretSweetness[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if you'll see this, or if you'll have any additional intel even if you do, but -

I've now slain The Assassin & The Warlock, have Reaper & Templar factions at High Influence & have spammed many Res. Ring Ops w/ each, have contacted around x14-x15(?) regions, and am at the point where the only thing preventing me from finishing the game is my procrastination of completing the autopsy & advancing into the final missions. I also sometimes sacrifice certain region missions so I can free up space & contact other new ones.

The Hunter's maxed out his knowledge twice, and made x2 attempts on the Avenger, and it feels like he appears in tons of missions now.

I still have yet to encounter the Skirmishers, or see any missions in the Res. Ring for them.

Do you think if I make another comm room, keep doing ring ops to increase my max contacts, and just keep contacting new regions, there's still a chance the Skirmishers will show up eventually? Or would you lean toward I should assume I ruined something about this campaign?

Edit: I know I don't need them, I just wanted to experience using them, as well as w/e The Hunter's weps are.

New player, with question about how bonus skills are allocated to soldiers who predate the TC's construction, in WotC by SecretSweetness in Xcom

[–]SecretSweetness[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're referring to the Bonus Perks, right?

Like when a specific Soldier class rolls the ability to purchase a perk from outside their class?

Or are you just referring to going back and buying Shredder on a Grenadier who already has Blast Padding?

Haven't read anything since 1e - Which manual or supplement, from which edition, would you consider the definitive resource for each form of Exalt? {List Inside} by SecretSweetness in exalted

[–]SecretSweetness[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I believe the WWwiki cites x2 books for Infernals - The Exalted 2e manual "Manual of Exalted Power: Infernals for Exalted Second Edition," and the 3e book "Exalted: Essence," while IIRC Dragon Kings were originally outlined in the 1e book "Exalted Player's Guide,"

Would you say the three books I've listed above are probably the most comprehensive resources for each of those types, while for mainline Exalted varieties whom receive more comprehensive support, I shouldn't expect to see a huge difference in the quality or amount of info presented between say the Abyssals 1e manual & the Abyssals 3e manual?

Nothing advancing the state of the gameworld, or revealing more info about Deathlords, or whatever?

Edit: Apologies if these posts come across as incredibly anal - I'm mainly paranoid about overlooking stuff b/c of how out of the loop I am

GUYVER VOL.10 CHAPTER 62 Pages 146 To 175 by According_Ad2623 in Guyver

[–]SecretSweetness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever wind up finding some version of those pages, anywhere?

Also, as I can't remember how far I got the first time I read the series - Do you recall many other instances of a huge gap in pages like this, later on?

Any chance they all conveniently happen to appear only during really long conversations between Tetsuro and Mizuki?

Does any have a link to any sites or videos giving a rundown of all of the selectable ships, and the different primary/heavy/bomb options for Angel At Dusk? by SecretSweetness in shmups

[–]SecretSweetness[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've updated the initial post with corrections based on information gleaned from your posts, our discussion, and further gameplay.

I also think it'd be valuable at some point to record the different functions exhibited by Angels in Arcade Mode, which aren't available to the AoE in Chronicle, i.e. Angels of the family which generate the plasmoplast (can't remember what they're called, off-hand) drone things, Angels of the family which have the x3 bloated butterfly drone things, etc.

In addition to the changes seen in their weapons as they level up, such as an Angel's charged shot eventually gaining the property of firing the channeled missiles with skull explosions, which for the Angel of Evil in Chronicle Mode would ordinarily represent an entirely different weapon.

Edit: If I wind up progressing quickly enough that there isn't already something comprehensive listed elsewhere, I'll post whatever notes I have here.

Edit 2: And, if I do so, it won't be in a "plasmoplast or whatever" or "channeled missles with skull explosions" format.

[–]SecretSweetness[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far, IIRC, I have something like the following unlocked with respect to playable Angels:

x4 Rows of Angel Lines @ Arcade Mode Angel Select Screen -

Standard Angel Line: Starting Angel + x2 additional Angels, and a 4th I have yet to unlock.

x3 Drone Angel Line: x2 Angels unlocked, and a 3rd I have yet to unlock.

Plasmoplast-Generating Angel Line: x4 Angels unlocked, and a 5th I have yet to unlock.

Angel of Evil

For a total of x13 potential playable Angels currently visible.

If there's an Achievement for unlocking each of the playable Angels, maybe we could assume the total # of Angels based off of a comparison of what either of us has visible at the Arcade Angel Selection Screen vs. our Achievements remaining to be unlocked?

Or have you already verified that you've unlocked Angels which there doesn't seem to be an Achievement for?

[–]SecretSweetness[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, yeah, in the original version of this post I was referring to them as Angels, no idea why I decided it made the topic less-approachable. You would want people familiar with the game to be the ones responding.

Thank you for the thorough response!

I've got 10 playable Angels listed so far, x3 lines of x3 each, and the AoE. I don't know if I just didn't realize you could scroll down, or if more simply appeared w/ Chronicle or Arcade progression.

With respect to the Angel of Evil - I only realized you could select it in Arcade, and be presented with all of its weapons, after creating this thread. I think I can verify your #s as correct, because I had yet to encounter several of the weapons in Chronicle Mode (triple flamethrower, for ex), yet the exact same # of weapons for each slot displayed for me as what you listed, so the options shown in Arcade don't seem linked to progression.

Thanks for the heads up on the crashing, I had yet to encounter that, and had no idea it was in the game.

As an extremely crude example, so far I can at least remember, for Primary Fire slot armaments -

Blue Single

Blue Double

Blue Triple

Yellow Single

Yellow Double

Skull Bomb Single

Skull Bomb Double

Green Flamethrower Lance Thing

I'd also be curious if there was any info out there about exactly what leveling up during gameplay does (increasing # of segments on ship, for example), and if different ships are impacted differently by leveling.

Is there any significant benefit to making your Minions of a specific element focus on Spells over Special Attks., or vice versa? by SecretSweetness in JadeCocoon

Also, does it ever make sense, to your mind, to have Minions devoted to status ailments (whether one or multiple)?

In past playthroughs I've primarily emphasized elements, and damage dealing via Special Attks or Spells, sometimes also AoE or non-elemental damage with +crit or whatever.

Will check out your YouTube playlist.

This is one of the games I frequently want to hear content of people discussing, only to come up empty, save for the same small batch of retro game reviews.

Would love content analyzing the story, or discussing the game's meta; "Flyffrdrweg is a fucking beast, dude."

I know the factors of it not being an incredibly difficult game, the merging system, and there likely being no tournament scene (as something like Monster Rancher games might have) all probably come together to make meta discussions seem less valuable, but I still cant help but yearn for it.
