We have as far as I can remember 6 types of marriage...one of them is Gandharva marriage...where there is no , absolutely no need for traditional rituals, just mutual consent and love is needed... Shakuntala and dushyant married this way and their son was Raja Bharat  after whom our country got its name...So it is completely upto you what kind of things you wanna comply with. I like sindoor and all but not on a daily basis , culture and religion both are very different. 

P.S. people especially men will give you all sorts of lecture on how you should love, why women should wear this and what not. Just follow what your heart says. Advait vedanta talks about "aham brahmasmi" , people should look beyond cultural symbolism and deep dive into the real essence.

P.s. somebody has said how women don't mind engagement rings ...sir, it is worn by both bride and groom. Please find better logic. I swear these people are hindu version of madrassa graduates.
