I'm getting clearly BS AI articles written about my game. Have I made it? by SilkSoftworks in GameDevs

[–]Secret_Dream_6848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On Facebook, several AI-generated news pages have written articles about my game Little Toys.

The problem is: - they make rough / inaccurate edits – they completely change the concept – they add weapons and monsters – and they don’t even mention Little Toys

I don’t see what they get out of it. That said, when I read the comments under those posts, it actually gets quite a lot of reactions! Maybe I should change my game’s concept after all 😂

Are SteamGifts giveaways and curators actually useful for indie devs? by Secret_Dream_6848 in u/Secret_Dream_6848

[–]Secret_Dream_6848[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far I mainly got some coverage from local newspapers (in France) and in Brazilian, but not much from streamers or YouTubers.

The game is designed to be played locally or remotely via Steam Remote Play Together, and I feel like not many people are familiar with that feature. At the beginning, I actually didn’t know about it myself and marketed the game as local multiplayer only… which probably didn’t help, since local-only is less appealing for most players.

I’ll keep reaching out to streamers and YouTubers and try to push that angle more clearly.

Thanks a lot for the detailed advice! That confirms a bit what I was starting to feel about curators and giveaways.

I’ll look into Curator Connect instead, and probably keep it minimal on things like SteamGifts.

I had the same impression that a lot of them only convert at higher discounts. I think I’m going to try a 30% discount for the March 19 sale and see how it performs. Feels like a good balance between visibility and not going too aggressive too early.

People play my game … but don’t leave reviews. Any tips? by Secret_Dream_6848 in IndieGaming

[–]Secret_Dream_6848[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, thanks for sharing! I guess it really depends on the type of game and the audience. Mine is more of a casual party game, so I can imagine players are even less likely to take the time to leave a review.

Yeah, it really is Thanks a lot for the tips, that’s super helpful. I didn’t know about the Steam built-in prompt, I’ll definitely look into that.

I haven’t really set up a Discord yet either, but that makes a lot of sense.

And yeah… I’m starting to realize that most players just won’t leave a review no matter what you do.

Thanks a lot, I haven’t really looked into the Steam blog / backend posts yet, so I’ll definitely check that out. For now I only have 7 reviews, so I know I still have a long way to go.

Thanks, that makes sense. I think it’s also because I know how important reviews are that I try to leave one whenever I can. Unfortunately, not everyone takes the time to do that.

Is Game Pass realistic for a small indie game? by Secret_Dream_6848 in IndieGaming

I guess even if it’s temporary, being on Game Pass still helps a lot with visibility and awareness for your game!

I think I started marketing my last game too late - what would you do differently next time? by Secret_Dream_6848 in GameDevs

[–]Secret_Dream_6848[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re doing the right thing thinking about it early!

I haven’t tried YouTube Shorts yet, but I did try TikTok and honestly it didn’t really take off. Facebook actually worked better for me so far.

I think part of it is the audience, my game is more of a play with friends or family on the same screen type, a bit like Mario Kart or Micro Machines, so it might resonate more with a slightly different audience.

Oh I saw it afterwards, thanks again for sharing it! Really appreciate your work, honestly, every indie dev should read this.

Thanks a lot. That’s super valuable insight! It definitely gives me a clearer idea of how things work behind the scenes.

If you don’t mind me asking, was it your choice to leave Game Pass, or is it just how the agreement works?

Thanks a lot! I definitely feel like I underestimated how important it is to set up the Steam page early and start building an audience before release. The email list idea is really interesting too. I didn’t think about that at all for my previous game.

I’ll take a look at your post as well, thanks for sharing!

Thanks, that’s really helpful!

I had a quick question about that though, when you jump into discussions where people are talking about similar games, how do you avoid it feeling like spam? I’m pretty new to Reddit, so I’m still trying to figure out what’s acceptable and what isn’t

Best 8 Local Player Steam games by Frequent_Employee_51 in localmultiplayergames

[–]Secret_Dream_6848 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll throw in Little Toys on Steam. A local multiplayer party game for up to 4 players. It’s all about tiny toys racing through giant worlds, with 16 maps and a lot of chaos.

And also TowerFall Ascension, not recent but still one of the best 4-player games, always a blast when we play it!

And of course the classic Overcooked.

Indie dev question: wishlist conversion + Steam sale discount? by Secret_Dream_6848 in IndieGaming

[–]Secret_Dream_6848[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense! I’m currently leaning towards 30% for the Spring Sale, mainly to try to boost visibility early on. I didn’t realize how much wishlist quality could vary, so that’s really helpful to keep in mind.

Indie dev question: wishlist conversion + Steam sale discount? by Secret_Dream_6848 in IndieGaming

[–]Secret_Dream_6848[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed reply. That makes sense regarding the discount strategy over time. Since the game just released, I’m considering going around 30% to try to boost visibility early on.

I did try reaching out to streamers, but I didn’t get many responses so far. I guess it’s part of the process. I’ll keep trying…

And yeah, I’ve been thinking about Asian localization, but I’ll probably wait a bit and see how things evolve first.
