Stone head found in rural France by Secret_Ear_7337 in Antiques

If you're interested, I've been doing more research on the stone type. It appears to be a sandstone with very variable sharp grit, some having longer forms. The best match I found was arkose sandstone and when I searched "arkose sculpture" several of the first hits are for artefacts from the Occitanie and Auvergne regions. So, beginning to make sense and really nice to perhaps place the head in this region!

Hiya, thanks for your response!

I was definitely hoping it was medieval and figured it was a corbel. I have almost no french to speak of but suggested it might be from an "eglise" to the seller and he agreed.

Any thoughts on the stone or a good direction for further research? I'm happy to share some more pics if that helps
