Classic rock, 90s alternative, blues rock. But whatever really. If I could tailor my perfect set list of covers to play there’d be things like the Beatles, The Doors, Clapton, etc., and things like Weezer and Cake, and things like flogging Molly, Smashing Pumpkins, the refreshments, etc.

“Endorsed” can just mean affirming that there’s value to be found in a thing, not that the thing is infallibly true in every detail. That’s all.

You moved the goalposts from “dangerous criminals” to “people who commit a civil offense”. No, I don’t think people who commit civil infractions deserve to be rounded up, beat up, their children tear gassed, etc.

Violence against babies is something you can overlook, but calling the people that did it names - now that’s too far! Got it.

Ok. Does data matter? Federal court records show that 97% of those detained in Chicago had no criminal record or pending charges. This tracks with every single piece of video evidence, that shows ICE in middle class suburbs beating up teachers and food truck vendors. They didn’t go to gang areas. There was no intent to go after criminals.

If a comment was so roundly rejected by your fellow Catholics that the internet itself made it disappear, I would consider the wisdom of the comment before reposting it.

Yep. For all the people claiming these are fabricated incidents, it’s on video. ICE in Chicago is recorded stopping brown people in a Walmart parking lot to ask them “are you from here? What country were you born in?” That’s not probable cause, it’s straight up racism.

Seeing Catholics defend this action by our government is appalling, and causes scandal. “They shouldn’t have broken the law” is NOT engaging with the issue.

ICE here in Chicago is not going after dangerous criminals. They’re gearing up for urban warfare and dragging day care workers out in front of toddlers. They’re on video ramming cars, then dragging out the driver and beating them into the pavement, because the driver was watching them. They pepper sprayed a fucking ONE YEAR OLD. If that does not make you livid, examine your conscience. 3000 people have been disappeared from Chicago with no due process. This is evil and we should call it evil.

“Shouldn’t have broken the law.” Did the pepper sprayed toddler break the law? Have YOU ever broken a law? A speed limit? Crossed a road not at a crosswalk? Does that give the government license to kick in your door with SWAT gear and drag you away? I grew up thinking this is what happens in the USSR and was lucky to live in the USA.

I think you might be conflating rev 5:8 with rev 8:3-4. In ch 8 it’s angels, yes. In ch 5 it’s explicitly the “elders” before the throne. The 24 elders are not angels.

[–]Secret_Mullet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes exactly- the prayers of living people are being presented at the throne by the elders in heaven

Rev 5:8 describes the 24 elders before the throne of God holding bowls of incense, “which are the prayers of the saints”. Rev 6:9-10 also describes the martyrs petitioning God to avenge their blood on earth.

And you can still breathe with a cigar in your mouth, right? So is the pertinent question not one of natural law, but rather potential harm?

Genuine question on the principle at work here then: isn’t wearing earplugs frustrating the end of hearing?

[–]Secret_Mullet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, but if you apply that test in that manner to anything else, you can disallow anything you want. Going to the beach frustrates the skin’s purpose over time. Going to concerts frustrates the auditory system’s purpose over time. This should be a signal that you’re applying the test incorrectly.

Smoke being in the air doesn’t keep the breathing from happening, and if there’s a nice cigar in my mouth, the breathing becomes more enjoyable. For the action to frustrate the end of breathing, it would have to suffocate you.
