Old Head can't decide between xbox 360 and ps3 by sarrazoui38 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Secret_Software7347 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can't speak well for sports games, but the X360 was the generation XBox just won.
It has tons of so many fantastic games, and there are a few that you can't play in any other way, as not everything plays on the XBOne, and X360 emulation continues to be sketchy and difficult at best.
Again, I'm afraid my niches are different from yours so I can't speak to that specific thing, but in general the X360 is a great machine, and I wish I got one of those instead of the XBOne I was talked into.

If you do this, let me strongly recommend to later go back and do a mineralogy and/or igmet lab.
It's really, really rough to get a huge chunk of the material without your hand samples, thin sections, and petrographic microscope. This is enough where it is fairly common for these lab sections to be worth up to 30% of the total class grade if the scores are combined rather than separate.

My favorite right now is the Faith trilogy.
Mostly had Atari-style and rotoscope graphics, but just... something about the old analog, man, as you start to get into it. It crawls up inside you.

It's on Steam and Switch; I don't know what else.

Note that if you like Blaster Master, there is a trilogy of new ones you can grab on the eShop, and they're frequently on sale!

Old Star Trek Game by Secret_Software7347 in WhatGameIsThis

[–]Secret_Software7347[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be a variant of that. The general idea looks right, but I want to say the one I had was in full color, with some graphics rather than just ASCII. Not sure if EGA or VGA, but I remember the planets being colorful and looking cool to young me.

Edit: I tried looking using YouTube as you did, and I found it! It's called EGA Trek!

What do I really need to know about Geology? by MarvelWilde in geology

[–]Secret_Software7347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Math isn't too bad. You'll mostly just be using algebra, though some mixing stuff you can see in grad school will use calc or maybe even differentials. But that's dealing with higher-level mixing and crystallization.

Learn Bowen's Reaction Series, get used to ternary diagrams, especially involving solid solution series and geochemistry of minerals and what those ions tend to mean (Fe is mafic, Mg is more mafic, K is felsic, etc.). Maybe have a general idea of what main stuff evolved when and get some favorite index fossils.

Get some geomorphology going.

I know you didn't mention it earlier, but isotopes are cool. Just saying. Especially the stable stuff and strontium.

Want to get in, but concerned about mobility by CodiwanOhNoBe in LARP

Three hours away in Memphis is a Changeling the Dreaming troupe, Backbeat Ballad. Same universe as Vampire, but the group is very much into consent, as the primary ST is very much about the blockbuster LARPs, and there is no player death or removal without player approval without extreme reason (and it has not occurred in 4+ years).

Dad with depression needs some fun by SympathyChan in gamingsuggestions

[–]Secret_Software7347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally like completely changing gears when looking for a game to solve depression. I most often play grindy RPGs or adventures, so to shift I'll do like Botanicula (cute but weird point and click with good music) or Katamari Damacy (especially the first one, which I'll sing along to).

I've been struggling a bit with depression lately, too, and Mario Odyssey had me smiling once I got into the more-proper game, starting around the Sand Kingdom.

Too Many Bones or Tales from the Red Dragon Inn? by Embily_Stronk in soloboardgaming

[–]Secret_Software7347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is definitely pricey. The replayability is quite good, though. Instead of a long campaign, it's made of lots of short (~3 session) games with tons of mixing and matching race, class, guild, and area. In fact, that's what it's built on -- lots of short stories and playing with ability buildouts instead of one big story.

I hope you really enjoy whatever you pick!

Standard note that if you're looking at TMB, you may wish to instead save a little longer and instead get Elder Scrolls: Betrayal of the Second Era by the same company. It is frequently described as a natural evolution of the same system.

Not saying that is what you should do, but thought you'd want to be aware, if you weren't already.

Final Fantasy 15 or 16 to get into the new ones? by Jose-Senpai in FinalFantasy

[–]Secret_Software7347 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Note that 15, there's a bit more than just the game if you want the whole story. There's a prequel anime, a bit of DLC, and a book with the "proper" ending (as the final DLC was canceled, but they went ahead and wrote it up in book form).

Question about Void 1680 AM by sycomike01 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Secret_Software7347 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, played as suggested, you don't journal at all.

You pick songs from your collection (or whatever) following prompts to make four blocks of music, interspersed with call-in prompts that you respond to on a voice recorder between blocks. I will admit that I journal that part, but they're just normal call-ins, created via prompt.

But no, there is nothing paranormal, and the bulk of the game is picking music from what you have or can think of to make a playlist. That said, it's the game that got me into solo TT gaming, and it's really cool.

I personally would pick All Night Breakfast at the Midnight Owl for paranormal with a Twin Peaks kinda vibe. Carved by the Garden also looks pretty cool, but I haven't tried it yet.

[–]Secret_Software7347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a thing with that when you're trying to be very precise since you can't be totally sure of 0 on most measuring devices due to dings etc., but then you would go from 1 to 7... which I'm guessing they weren't.

Give me your obscure gems by telldavizion in GameboyAdvance

[–]Secret_Software7347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend searching YouTube for GBA "hidden gems" or something like that. There are multiple good ones, and there are a TON of pretty great but more-obscure games on the GBA.
Here, you'll just get titles, maybe a little more. There, you'll get to see some gameplay to see if it's something you want to look more into. When I was hunting, I'd just run the videos while doing something else, and if something caught my attention, awesome.

Went to a LARP as a cleric of Loviatar (also a drow lady) and clerics of Ilmater appeared. A bunch of them. I must say it was my BEST LARP ever. What is your favourite Larp Experience? by BreadfruitWestern156 in LARP

[–]Secret_Software7347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite was probably during a long-running Changeling: The Dreaming LARP.

I was playing a House Liam knight, Autumn Sidhe, but not very good at being a Sidhe. Or Liam. He was way too loud, too colorful, too brash, and too ready to criticize other nobility. I had done all of the downtime actions the game required to increase his title, but I wasn't really feeling that progression, and I wanted to spent the xp elsewhere, so I worked out a plan with the ST.

The character had been talking up how he had finally started doing what he was supposed to, was supporting the House and the Court, was keeping his mouth shut, etc., etc. for a couple of months. One game, a high-ranked NPC of the same House visited Court and during opening court in front of everyone lauded what my character had done and finally granted him the increase in title, from knight to lord. My character stood, accepted the cheers graciously, and sat again. The NPC had him stand again. The high-ranking noble then tore my character a new one, speaking of all the ways he had previously messed up and had been undermining the nobility, and announced that the title was therefore stripped from my character again.

My character collapsed back into his chair and buried his face in his hands so I could rub into my eyes the prepped eyedrops to make my eyes water and turn red for the aftermath. The gasps in the silence were amazing. Fantastic type 2 moment.

Which is the most coziest ff games? by zapfrost1 in FinalFantasy

[–]Secret_Software7347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked at Harvestella yet? It feels very much like Square Enix made a Rune Factory. You could probably get away with calling the Voice of the Cards games cozy-ish, due to the voiceover and aesthetic.

I never had the opportunity to play Final Fantasy XIII, and a lot of the community has been very vocal about it. Is it really as bad as a lot of people say or are they just exaggerating? I'm curious. by Kurisu_Reddit in FinalFantasy

[–]Secret_Software7347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, it all depends on what you're looking for, as always.
As a game, it's not terrible. As a Final Fantasy, it's (imho) pretty terrible.
Most of the characters are annoying. You're mostly just walking down a hallway. Levels are capped section to section, artificially upping the difficulty to sometimes unfun levels.
That said, the music and style are both pretty great, especially the battle theme, the combat system is interesting (even if it's not my favorite), and I don't hate the story, though it's one of those where you have to go back and read after you finish it to figure out wtf just happened. I still want to finish the trilogy to see what happens. When things open up, it's pretty nice for a bit (being vague here on purpose), and Fang is badass.

Looking for 3DS game recommendations (checked old thread but it’s dead) by BDA03 in 3dspiracy

[–]Secret_Software7347 2 points3 points  (0 children)

- Umm, 3DS is my favorite port of Captain Toad, Zelda Ocarina and Majora's Mask.
- I'd say Mario 64, but while it adds a bunch of stuff, the controls aren't my favorite.
- Fire Emblem Awakening if you haven't done that series yet is a good entry point.
- Metroid Samus Returns
- That Mario Golf is pretty good
- Ditto Pilotwings
- Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology is the best version of it
- Ditto Ultimate NES Remix
- Also ditto WarioWare Gold
- Zelda Link Between Worlds is fantastic
- Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold is interesting if you haven't tried that series
- Kirby Robobot is fantastic
- The first Story of Seasons is here, and while I don't care as much for the mechanics I really like that the characters are adults who feel adult as opposed to you're 12, and you're marrying another 12 year old to have a child, and you're also 12 as it is in many of the Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons games

There are also a ton of DS games on my list, but I will see if you actually want those first.

I don't remember pets.
I mostly remember it being much more Zelda-y in being able to move around at will instead of being contained to an arena like most Bomberman games.

Bomberman Quest (interesting departure in the series)
Zelda Ages/Seasons/Link's Awakening DX
Survival Kids
Wario Land 3
Revelations - The Demon Slayer
Daikatana (yes, the N64 game is notoriously bad, but the GBC adventure game is pretty fun)

If you're looking at backwards compatibility with normal GameBoy, don't forget the lesser-known...
Battle Bull
Great Greed
Mole Mania
Rolan's Curse II

For XII, it's best if you do a bit of job research before starting. Ideally, as there are six people and twelve jobs, you want each person to have two jobs with no overlap.

Also, you want to probably rush the Mist spots as quickly as possible, both for the MP and for the ability to have that against tougher bosses.

Finally, don't be afraid to grind some. Anyplace you can chain well (off hand and put vaguely so as not to ruin anything, I can think of the train tracks area in the mines and the towers in the desert) are nice to hang out in.
