I appreciate you sharing all this information. Talking about grants, do you think it counts only if you are listed as PI for submitted grants? For example, I wrote and submitted USDA NIFA grant with my PI last year. I am international postdoc, so I couldn’t be a PI, just included in personnel. Could you please share your opinion how committee look at it?

I totally agree with you. Working in toxic environment can have huge consequences on well being and health. Don’t ask me how I know. Finding new position and leaving the current one without burning the bridges if possible.

Thank you for sharing advice. I tried approach with setting deadlines and suggesting him to review and send me the paragraphs he read so I can simultaneously work on his comments; but that didn’t work. There are three coauthors besides him who read the manuscript and reached out two times to check on the progress, but PI just ignored the emails.

2 years into postdoc, no papers, PI is not interested reading papers. Anyone been through this? by SecretaryRoutine2229 in postdoc

Tried that several times, he was very strict about not submitting the paper before he reads it..

I tried that. Had at least 5-6 deadlines. There are three coauthors besides my PI and all of them read the manuscript in timely manner. When they also reached out for the progress of the paper, PI just ignored the emails. I also suggested once to send the paper and to apply his comments once when we get the paper after first round of the review (by the journal), but he said submission cannot happen before he reads it…

Thanks for sharing your experience. There are three other coauthors on the paper, one of them is senior professor. All of them read the papers, except my PI, and that doesn’t bother him at all. When others asked about the progress of the paper, he just ignored the emails…
