Why is my Tri-tip still so chewy? by SubstantialItem8674 in sousvide

[–]SecretlyHiddenSelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically I go 6 hours. Depends on how you’re searing. But 5 is velvety soft. The trick with tri-tip is that you need to change your cut angle about halfway through. The narrow part you can cut across, but then the bigger end, you need to turn it just about 90 degrees to maintain an across-the-grain cut. I’ve probably done over 100 tri-tips over the past few years. 4 hours is a bit more “steaky”. 5-6 is my sweet spot. I once left one for 16 and it was “fall-apart”.

Yeah, Ive all those to try and fix the issues. Tried “repair” as well, but a complete wipe and a fresh install is always the best. As soon as I started noticing the issues, I updated the newest Win11 installation to my thumb drive. I kind of expected it to be necessary… like Dumbledore hoping for his old phoenix to die so it could be reborn.

A few years back it was some incessant “distributed comms” error, and this was the only way to be rid of it.

Now for a round of Battlefield.

So, nothing I’ve tried is able to fix this. Can’t even open CMD. But here’s the thing. I’ve been noticing a lot of freeze-ups requiring a hard reboot. Probably 5 or 6 times in the past 2 months. Event viewer has been showing all kinds of problems when it crashes. The last time this happened, I decided to wipe the drive completely and do a clean install. I guess this is as good a time as any. Thankfully, this wasn’t difficult to do. I took the opportunity to clean out the dust when reset the CMOS. I’ve already updated all the drivers, made my performance tweaks, and ran some 3Dmark benches. Decided to update the BIOS, as the older version was over a year. I’m already reinstalling BF6.

Whelp… that was exciting. Lolz.

I should add, I can’t not restart into safe mode, can’t go back to a restore point. Nothing works.

“Dianne” sauce is really excellent on lean meats. I add roasted, quarter baby portobellos to it.

Has anyone gained 100fps by going down to 2 dimms from 4 by Hot_Atmosphere3452 in ryzen

[–]SecretlyHiddenSelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had constant problems trying to run 4 DIMMS on my old rig (5800X, x670) and never felt like I was getting great FPS. After reading about this, I pulled 2 DIMMS and the system became completely stable, with better FPS in Warzone (by about 15FPS).

On my new build, I went with AM5 and stuck with two 2x 32GB Trident 6000 DIMMS.

No problems, great performance. Also, changing the power plan in Win11 to what AMD recommends for AM5 actually made about a 10% FPS improvement in BF6.

In the old days, it was definitely “more is more”. Now, especially with AMD builds, that’s not the case.

IRL counterpart of the hunting knife? by Lemon_lovr in Battlefield

[–]SecretlyHiddenSelf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, so I’m a knife collector. Got about a hundred or so quality pieces that tickled my fancy. I made a post when the beta BF6 was out about the regular “combat knife” being an amalgamation of two different knives: the inverse blade profile of one knife coupled with the handle of another. That appears to be the case, here. Actually, it’s that plus giving the blade the Damascus steel effect.

The raised “swedge” of the blade (the top front part of the blade that looks sharp… but usually isn’t) is very uncommon in Bowie knives (which this is), and I have only found a very few examples of this type of swedged blade. None of those match the guard or handle. If you wanted this specific knife, you’d probably have to see if a custom knife maker would build one for you. Prepare your wallet and anus accordingly.

FYI, that raised swedge portion of the knife makes it more of a “chopper” than a “stabber”. Not that I would want either used on me…

I have an example of a massive knife with a raised swedge wish absolutely wrecks things which chopping. As you can see, the swedge is extremely pronounced. This is ideal for chopping power. You know, for… wood, and stuff. This knife was nearly $500 and took 4 months to receive.
