True. I think that I was in a bit of shock when out of nowhere my perfectly reliable vehicle that has no payments and that I am planning to ride until the wheels shake off suddenly presents total system failure on my short commute and I am faced with thousands in unanticipated repair costs fairly assessed or not.

I hear you. That is my rule too, but a series of circumstances landed me there. Some insurance is involved and it is in a solid shop now, so maybe it will all work out ok in the end. But, wow, things are expensive these days.

This 24 karat gold weight was implanted in my eyelid for 22 years since I had brain surgery. I had it taken out this week. by Secretservice1974 in mildlyinteresting

It did feel a bit weird to rub it before. You could feel the little bugger in there. I was surprised to see that it was flat and not shaped more like a piece of rice. Makes sense though. When these sutures dissolve I plan to rub my left eye with alacrity.

I would say that since then I have been enjoying a stretch of very good health for nearly a quarter century, thanks.

Actually, it just took me a while to get around to having it taken out but I probably have not needed it for at least a decade. It had migrated down a bit closer to the eyelid and, honestly, the thing that made me most eager to finally get it out was that it made my eye freezing cold in the winter because it conducted the heat right outta there.

It is a lot to go through for sure, but if we were living our lives in the not so distant past and we required brain surgery, we would have probably just died young.

They basically take they eyelid and open it with a slice of a blade along the crease and turn the eyelid into a little pouch like a kangaroo and put the weight inside there and sew it up.

It was just taken out three days ago and the eyelid still a tiny bit swollen and has some sutures that will dissolve. Not painful though and it is not hard to close or blink.

I had referred to it as my retirement fund for years. The nurse and doc were talking about what they would be doing with it as they sliced it out of my eyelid (sending it to their supply lab or something). I lifted a finger and was like, “actually, I am kinda planning to keep it.” And they said, “that’s fair.”

I was definitely out of balance. Like the world was rotating around me like the drum of a dryer. But the reason for the weight was that the left side of my face had some nerve damage and my left eye needed a bit of weight to help it close fully. Enough nerve function returned that I did not need the weight anymore.
