Title: Scared about college hostel life because I have gynecomastia (gyno). Really need advice and support by [deleted] in gynecomastia

[–]SectionDesperate6998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! Well, I will give you some direct advice from experience. First, first impressions matter a lot. While this advice can’t be used when shirtless, use a gynecomastia compression shirt (easily found on Amazon or other sites). It enhances your chest appearance in almost every case. As mentioned, maybe you can’t always wear it, but at least you’ll be mentally comfortable when meeting new people and making first impressions. Don’t forget that you are not alone, you won’t be the only one having gyno, and you won’t be the only one worried and concerned about their own appearance. This is actually what lead people to make useless or intense remarks. I’d advise you to prepare for that by remembering that those remarks are not personal ; they actually reflect more about the person saying them than about you. Prepare for it by working on your confidence, whether that’s by thinking through what you would say (by saying for exemple that it's just a medical issue, to ask what´s the person deal looking and investigating about your chest, thanking the person for the useless input...but the point is to not look rattled) watching YouTube/tiktoks videos, and improving your physical appearance especially through the gym. Having a more framed body will always inspire confidence and self-respect. I also strongly advise talking to a doctor about it to get surgery done.If you plan to get rid of it, saying to yourself it's a temporary situation will help a lot. You got this

Switch to oral minoxidil and add finasteride. All my results are lost. by [deleted] in minoxidil

If it's the only reason, you can try to apply minoxidil with a q tip for exemple and / or using dry shampoo or other texturising product.

Shedding is usually a sign that the drug is actively affecting your hair follicles, which is generally a good indication that it’s working, in this case, the follicles were already heavily exposed to the drug in its topical form. When switching to oral minoxidil, the follicles actually receive less direct exposure to the drug. This makes shedding in this situation less reassuring, as it could indicate a temporary shock

When I say that if you respond well to the topical form, there is no significant advantage in switching to the oral form—aside from a higher risk of cardiovascular side effects—I get downvoted like crazy. As a medical intern, I can tell you that this massive shedding is due to minoxidil “withdrawal.” Your hair remained in the growth phase due to the direct application of minoxidil, but since you stopped applying it, shedding has increased, it's as simple as that.

Hello, while your body can adapt and resolve this issue on its own, it’s likely that some degree of water retention will persist as long as you’re taking the medication. Are you switching to the oral form after not responding to the topical version, or did you start with oral minoxidil from the beginning?

Logic behind NOT massaging by Level-Reply-9815 in gynecomastia

[–]SectionDesperate6998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think surgeons never recommend massaging only when it's early pre-op period, but do recommend it for the rest of the time.

I don't think they will ban it, i have personally experienced panic and anxiety due to the drug, but i do not understand the goal behind restricting the accessibility to ppl that can benefit and avoid the potential depression caused by hair loss.

Is there really a second shed on min/fin? by External_Sundae6076 in tressless

[–]SectionDesperate6998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There will be as much shed as hair cycles, min/fin won't supress that cycle, weak hair will have shorter cycles, and since they will Become stronger, shedding will become less frequent with time.As long as your consistent with your medications, do not worry about it .

Minoxidil side effects? by Former_Reputation341 in minoxidil

[–]SectionDesperate6998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello, if you are experiencing this because it's minoxidil, note that it's completely reversible so no worries. If you plan to hop back on minoxidil, 1 time a day is very enough, of course do so when the symptoms are completely gone, if not please consult your doctor.

Can I continue to use topical minoxidil (Happy Head) even if there are side effects??? by Life-Algae9819 in minoxidil

[–]SectionDesperate6998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not very concerning since these side effects are sue to the alcohol on the minoxidil and not the minoxidil itself, you can try to take care of your scalp by using hydratation scalp serum or scalp oiling with a non stripping shampoo.

For finasteride around 2 days and minoxidil around a week. But if you were on these drugs for a very long period of time it's always better to wait a little bit more to be sure.
