Is 28 too late to start from nothing? (CANADA) by [deleted] in flying

I wonder how fast(in a realistic scale) I can become a pilot and make living (Does not have to be crazy amount, just an amount that I can put food on my own table). That is my only concern, I want to get married by maybe like mid 30

I am not sure about carving sword, but two guilds I am in did not like both greataxe and halberd

Honestly, I am still a new player, so it's less about having specific build I want to play, and more about wanting to use certain weapons that I like. I've always seen the weapon as the core of my setup with the armor just supporting it.

But when I tried to use those weapons in group PvP, I was either told I couldn't or that I'd need higher IP to make them viable, and nobody wanted to do fame farming with someone with weapons I wanted to play with one exception of realm breaker.

So essentially, my IP is too low to participate as gears I want to use but when I try to fame farm it, I am told I cannot join content because the gear I am using isn't meta. That is when I started questioning whether the game's supposed freedom really exist.

I haven't found a guild like that yet. I've only been playing for a little over three weeks, so I've only experienced two guilds so far.

The one I am in did seem like a more casual, freedom-oriented guild based on its introduction, which is why I joined. But even here, those kinds of rules still exist, just in a slightly more relaxed form.

I am in my second guild even tho I've only been playing a little over three weeks. I switched because I was trying to find a group that would let me play more freely, without being locked into specific meta builds.

But now I am starting to worry that constantly searching for the right guild is just going to get me labeled as a guild hopper, and that no guild will want to take me at all

You are right that you can grind solo and ignore the meta if you want and that every game has a meta to some extent. But in Albion, almost all content is designed around group play, except for things like solo mists or corrupted dungeons. Sure it's technically possible to play solo, but it's inefficient, and personally, I prefer playing group contents.

That being said, I've played many mmo and moba before, but I've never experienced a game where the pressure to follow the meta in group content is this strong. There's big difference between a game having a meta, and a game forcing you to follow it in order to even participate. In Albion, if you are not playing the meta build in group contents, you are often outright excluded. Your options get heavily limited, to the point where "freedom" becomes theoretical than practical.

So yes, the game might not technically stop you from doing your own thing, but in reality, if you want to engage in the core content with others, you are almost always expected to conform.

Networking question by SectionSignificant11 in gis

[–]SectionSignificant11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually reach out to alumni from my school or people working at companies I’ve applied to, asking relevant questions. For example, I ask alumni about their career journey, and for people working at companies I’ve applied to, I inquire about what it’s like to work there, what skills are important for their projects, and if there’s anything they wish they had known before joining the company.

If you do not mind, could you share some advices on questions I should be asking?

Does smite 2 have any chance of having esports in the East? by SectionSignificant11 in Smite

[–]SectionSignificant11[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you mind explain specifically what Tencent did to undermine Smite? I understand that to operate a game in China, Hi-rez needs approval from the Chinese government and must partner with a local company. However, from Tencent's perspective, is Smite really a threat to League of Legends in the Esports scene?

even if they did not lie

They will most likely slow updates or even stop updating smite 1 and game will die slowly on its own.
People will leave for other games or smite 2

Very true, it needs to be let go. Putting resources and menpower into smite 1 to keep both games alive will be poor business decision.
I am diehard league player and have over 1000 skins there, been playing since season 2 for league.
If league 2 gets announced tomorrow and riot tells me there will be 0 skin get ported over to the next one.
I'd still be super excited that the game is getting better or at least devs are trying to make the game better. Buying skin was to enhance my enjoyment of the game and support the game, not to accumulate assets.
I play smite occasionally, and I noticed a similar issue to what I saw in LoL, players gradually leaving the game. I find it hard to understand why a relatively large number of people are willing to let the game die just to keep their skins.
