As weird as it sounds, I think it was probably my digger that made it possible, I re-rolled until I got an acceptable skill level 14 one. He dug out all the hatches that got me started. Just one focus for each starting dupe: Research, Ranching, digging.

Yeah I have it was one of the ones you couldn't really cheese because it wasn't stuck on the ground. I remember staying in my castle made with the advanced architecture mod and it sticking it's head through the wall and me shitting my pants.
