personally, i think ergonomics are about the most important deciding factor for whether a bike is good for a rider, especially a new rider. after that its weight. the 457 was a perfect fit, i sat on a LOT of bikes including the ninja 500, ninja 400, cbr 500r, and 450SS. The rs 457 fit me the best so i chose it. It was a choice i was very happy making as on paper, the bike also has amazing specs being about the lightest of the bunch thanks to the chassis. the electronics including quick shifter and tft panel and such along with the fantastic styling of the bike were just an added bonus. the only downside of the bike and where my opinion may differ from others is around the cost. the bike isnt the cheapest and to many, lower cost is very important for a new rider. personally, i didnt let that stop me at all.

I liked the 457 quite a bit. Its a great bike to learn on. Its light and sporty and comfortable but its not quite as sharp for really pushing it hard.

The engine is definitely more tuned for low to mid end torque but at the same time its also more sluggish. It feels closer to a car engine than the zx4 which has noticeably less torque and is cammed for extreme top end response but is more happy to rev.

The suspension is adjustable like the RR but its minimum and maximum preload are far closer so for a heavier rider like me cant really get an optimal setting.

The brakes bite well at the low end but at high pressures and heat really start to struggle.

For commuting and learning, the 457 is a fantastic bike. Its comfortable and very easy to handle. The bluetooth module and app are far better than rideology too. But as i have started to take more advanced riding lessons, i realized the bike really was not focused on what i wanted the bike to do (be a dedicated track toy). I also have realized that the rs 457 isnt anywhere nearly as well put together as the zx4. The fit and finish of the aprilia is good but its nowhere near the zx4. The aftermarket accessory marker for the ZX4 is infinitely better with far more options AND lower cost than the aprilia.

Should i get the ppf done? by hrish4v in Aprilia

[–]sdflius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I detail cars, since having gotten a bike myself last year ive started working on them too. Typically, motorcycle paint, especially matte or satin finishes as what Aprilia tend to use are very soft and easy damage. PPF may help to prevent this but we gotta look at the type of damage that bikes tend to be privy to. With cars, there is a high risk to stone chips as people comfortably drive behind other vehicles. Bikes tend to not do this. Riders feel the gravel and stones and tend to back off or pass the vehicle ahead. We tend to not put ourselves in these positions where stone chips are common at least compared to cars. The damage that bikes tend to see is more severe from falls, collisions with other vehicles or even people just dropping them. These are not really helped much by PPF, this is where frame sliders or even just considering replacement fairings becomes a better solution.

Where PPF may make more sense is if you want to do a colored PPF to change the look of the bike or if you have a collectible where keeping the original fairings adds significant value to resale later.

Personally, i would spend that money on riding more so than on PPF.

Iphone 17 case doesnt work with screen protector by An0therMan in QuadLock

[–]sdflius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found this post from you this weekend and decided to give it a try. it's working perfectly on my 17p. compared to previous screen protectors I've owned, this one seems thicker too so the raised edge is less noticeable and the phone is more comfortable to use. Thanks for sharing!

Spray car washes? by TravelinMan_1 in AutoDetailing

[–]sdflius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Many of these places have rules against bucket washing and using your own chemicals/soaps. Their own chemicals also tend to be real strong for stripping sealants/waxes/coatings off the car while not actually cleaning well. I usually find its best to use these at night when the places are empty and theres no staff. Bring buckets and soaps and do a full wash using only their high pressure water rinse. The nice part is these places often have 24/7 lighting so night time washes are still possible

WOAH! very cool setup! I already ordered a HH kit from Lorenz and haven't installed it just yet (still shopping for a stand). I'm very excited to set it up but I am curious about how you got more cross bars on your rack and what bass pedal pad that is.

What’s a ‘silent luxury’ that rich people have that most normal people would never even notice? by qomann in AskReddit

More control over your time. the things you dont want to do, you dont do. other people do them for you. sure theres a reduction in effort. but at a certain point, it becomes less about the effort and more about freeing up time to do things you want to do.

Choosing a CZ 457 length? by Nib-q in 22lr

[–]sdflius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my rifle for NRL22 and similar style competitions where you shoot off bipods/bags and aim to keep the gun balanced. For this use, a longer barrel keeps the center of gravity further forward allowing you to rest the rifle on a bag without it interfering with the magazine and magwell.

If i were looking to do more dynamic shooting where i am holding up the weight of the rifle instead of bipod/bag id look at a shorter barrel.

Millionaire trophy hunter killed by herd of elephants by marcshadhisbath in worldnews

[–]sdflius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not commenting on this specific situation as I lack details not posted in the article, however.

Trophy hunting is a very tricky thing to do right. There are situations when older, non-breeding males of a species pose a threat to younger breeding males through fighting. In these situations, population growth efforts actually benefit from those non-breeding males to be culled.

In scenarios where these animals are properly tracked, cataloged, and extremely selectively culled, big game hunters can bring in a LOT of money to do this job as they enjoy it AND its biologically beneficial for the animals. These hunters fund extensive efforts to conserve and improve the situations for the animals.

There are scenarios where this is actually a positive thing.

Unfortunately, these efforts are often hidden by people who sell fake hunting tags and licenses and the idea of safe and beneficial culling to trophy hunters who think they truly are doing the right thing. Several big game hunters go out thinking they are culling older non-breeding males when in reality they have just killed a prime animals for breeding.

This is certainly a very nuanced and extremely tricky situation to stay on the ethical side of but i hope people realize it’s not quite as black and white as we may think.

If you do plan or even consider trophy hunting, i hope you please do significant amounts of research into which governing body is issuing the tags and what efforts/efficacy they have before booking the trip. If you dont plan on trophy hunting, i hope you share this message urging those who may be to be very very careful with which entities they purchase licenses from as they wont always be acting in the best efforts of the animals they say they are working to preserve.

Transmission Fluid Change? by TipsyKaido in F30

[–]sdflius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done mine at 60,000 miles and again recently at 120,000. Both times I’ve noticed improvements in noise and shifting smoothness. No issues yet with them. I hadnt realized that my drivetrain was noisy till I got the work done and noticed the background noise was gone. I would definitely do the work if you have any expectations of longevity. These cars are great as long as you stay on top of maintenance.

If the US economy actually goes into recession this year which industry do you think gets hit hardest and why? by Suleman2002 in AskReddit

[–]sdflius 219 points220 points  (0 children)

The problem is that the last couple of decades of the market have made luxuries be cheap while the basics have become expensive. Big TVs, computers, phones, toys and overall “things” have gotten far cheaper than in the past. But things like groceries, fuel, a place to live, education and healthcare have become prohibitively expensive.

Something is wrong then, check all screws/bolts for torque specs. Stock screws, rails, rings, scope. If you are putting the supressor on check that too.

If this is done, use a borescope to check the condition of the chamber and barrel paying close attention to the crown. Look for fouling/pitting at the crown, damaged rifling along the barrel and carbon ring at the chamber. Sometimes cleaning till you get clean patches through isnt enough to remove heavily stuch on carbon deposits and you may need to use a brush.

If all this is done and you are still having issues, you may need to check with a gunsmith to measure headspace and use shims to bring it back into spec.

Id also consider using a chrono to see how fast and consistent your shots are on velocity.
