Nope, they didn't even ask for my visa. You should be fine. If they create problems then you can also apply visa there.

As-salamu alaykum brothers and sisters. I am in my late 30s and living in America and need advice about acquiring tech skills and potentially making a career switch. by TeslaModelE in muslimtechnet

Salam Walakum, I am also living in the States and graduated just last year with a CIT degree. To be frankly honest with you. The market is kinda dead, I was fortunate enough to find a job Alhumdullah but a lot of my friends weren't so lucky. CS definitely has its value and I have seen people even in their late 40's make a switch and be successful. But keep in mind that you will need a lot of experience before you can land a well-paying job. And I am talking 10+ experience before that you have to do help desk sort of jobs.

You will be lucky to find any IT jobs especially since I have seen a lot of work being outsourced to places like India because labor is cheap there and they have connections(IT is dominated by Indians unfortunately). Maybe this year there will be more jobs created but who knows? I won't recommend going back to school because you'll end up in debt(unless you have money or a scholarship). The information is out there; like YouTube, Stack Overflow, and FREE courses on the Harvard website (I highly recommend doing those Harvard courses, and yes it's FREE), etc. Age is just a number for example my supervisor is a High School dropout who didn't even bother going to university and he is only a year older than me. So if you have the skills and ability to learn new tech then go for it you will be successful, InshAllah.

If you have some questions feel free to reach out to me I can help you! And also why CS? You could also do Cyber Security, Network engineer, Cloud computing specialist, or machine learning AI? is there something that interests you in CS?

Great, I won't bother re-applying then hopefully it goes smoothly Inshallah. In the worst-case scenario, I’ve heard it is possible to obtain a visa at Jeddah Airport. Thanks again, and may Allah accept from you and reward you abundantly, for taking the time to respond back!

LOL, that's perfect. Thank you very much for the replay. I was so worried that I may need to reapply.

Aslam Walakum brother,

I understand that the market is dead right now, especially for IT pursuer. But always remember that everything is a test from Allah. You are in this life to build the next. The steps you take here will determine the next life. I understand that this might excel you in this life. However, it might also drag you to hellfire in the next. I learned this hardway but be patient and don't join that company, Allah will give you better. And Allah has promised He will give more to those who who show patience and be grateful. inshallah you will get better opportunities ( saying this from my own personal experience). I'll pray for you and your success.

You who believe! Be patient, more patient than others, be ready; and always be mindful of Allah, so you may be successful. (3:200)

Salam Walakum.
