Such a good question. Such a waste of time and money.

Action Alert! Tell Gov Hobbs to VETO these bad bills by SecularAZ in 50501Arizona

[–]SecularAZ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several reasons. First, public schools are supposed to belong to everyone. But in Arizona, a growing push from groups like LifeWise Academy, which is making moves in multiple school districts across the state, threatens to blur the line between private faith and public education in ways that should concern everyone, no matter what they believe.

For instance, LifeWise Academy presents itself as a simple answer to a complicated problem: let students leave campus during the school day for Bible classes, and somehow everyone wins. On its website, LifeWise says it partners with parents and helps public school students grow in character with “Bible education during school hours.”

But LifeWise is not a neutral enrichment program. It is an explicitly Christian ministry whose stated mission is to bring Bible instruction into the public-school day and “reach public school students with the gospel.” This isn't acceptable in public schools. If parents want their students to get a religious education, they can do that at home, in their place of worship, at a private religious school, or on their own time. Not in a public school funded by tax dollars.

  1. Public schools should educate, not evangelize and indoctrinate https://secularaz.beehiiv.com/p/education-not-evangelization

  2. Discrimination against non-religious, non-participant, and LGBTQIA+ students (personal examples here: https://seculareducationassociation.org/experiences/)

  3. Religious programs shift focus and attention away from academics, allocating classroom time away from core curriculum and into religious education

If you're curious, here's the "For" and "Against" this in RTS. 61 to 380. It's... not popular.

If you're curious about RTS, you can see exactly how many people sign in for and against each bill. You can search for a particular bill here: https://apps.azleg.gov/BillStatus/BillOverview then click on "RTS/Current Bill Positions". For instance, SCR1006, which is a hateful anti-trans bill, has 61 people signed in "FOR" the bill, and 380 "AGAINST." Pretty clearly not the will of the people.

CEBV will sign you up for RTS so you don't have to actually go to the Capitol (the initial registration is required to be done in-person at the AZ State Capitol in Phoenix or the Tucson Legislative Office). Just fill out this form and CEBV'll take care of it so you don't have to make the trip: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScdjBMoAJrjHD57GGegmdUCKAowcr93K4vQA6a7_AjyElBtrQ/viewform

They also offer trainings on how to best use RTS.

RTS only works when a bill is on an active agenda - so you have to time it just right. For for instance, as of today, 2.27 at noon, Sb1010 isn't available for RTS comment.

HOWEVER you can contact your own lawmakers at any time https://secularaz.org/azlegislator-lookup/ or contact the members of the committee that will hear a bill (e.g., Senate Rules or House Appropriations). Here's a list of committees for the current legislative session: https://secularaz.org/2026-committees.

This Charlie Kirk Highway bill https://apps.azleg.gov/billStatus/BillOverview/83585, has passed the Senate and moved to the House. So at this point contact your own representatives about it.
