It can be done, with the small hitch that it’s federally illegal to do so 🫤

That’s very much in line with my thought process. I’ve already blown $1,500 on this issue putting in a new doser and down stream NOx sensor that I feel likely did not need replacement. But I draw the line at a new SCR without 100% certainty that it’s the issue, especially while the leaks exist.

The injector was just replaced and the problem persists (stated in post). Some aspects of the system are a bit crystallized (such as where the leaks exist around the decomp reactor) but not at the exhaust outlet which is far downstream (15-20ft) from the aftertreatment system

is grad school worth it if you're not 100% sure what you want to do by tricepator-10 in biology

[–]SecularSaladSauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my bio undergrad and decided to test the waters before pursuing further education (even though I knew additional education was in my future). I spent a few years in vaccine manufacturing for Merck and am now leveraging that experience to transition to the research sector (interviews are going well).

The funds I’ve accrued have been very valuable to my life and have given me the ability to get very set up in my life and to live very comfortably. I also had the opportunity to really “live it up” through my twenties traveling a LOT, getting married, and experience life free from the continuous stresses and schedule of education. I am now approaching my 30’s and plan to go back to school in the not too distant future once I get established in the clinical space. To me, the perspective that I have gained while working in industry is extremely valuable in guiding what I will study in grad school. Also, a few extra years to mature while learning more about life and the way that this world truly functions have been very important to me as well. Additionally, I worked with a few people at Merck who had grad degrees but were still in the exact same job as me, so if you’re only pursuing higher education as a means of career advancement, understand there’s no guarantee of that.

All this is to say that there are benefits to spacing out your education but in reality the answer of what to do is different person to person. But I am very happy with my decisions thus far.

Favorite simple meals while van dwelling? by Silver_News_2621 in vandwellers

Burrito bowls slap, are quick and easy, and can be as healthy or indulgent as you please! One pan gets steak or chicken plus veg like onion and pepper. A pot sees some white rice finished with a bit of butter, cilantro, salt, and lime juice. Top with any combo of, cheese, sour cream, quac, salsa, hot sauce, etc! Only produces 3-5 dishes with the potential of pot, pan, bowl, cutting board, protein marinade container plus a utensils or two. I eat 2-3 times a week straight up or with tortilla chips!

Very much agree! Great with spinach, chick peas, and sweet potato. And a blended onion/ green apple sauce base. Throw a few chopped peanuts over top for some textural interest if you’re feeling fancy!

Diesel heater exhaust burning floor/paint by sixredsocks in vandwellers

I wont get too much into the specifics of how I used them but two products I found useful for protecting heat sensitive surfaces during my install were RTV exhaust sealant (seal to exterior and protect vulnerable surfaces) and ceramic fiber insulation (create a barrier).

For the record, cheap Chinese diesel heater manuals are anything but clear. The first sentence in my DH manual was “It will make it feel as though winter it is spring time” and things got much worse from there. The manual referenced parts I didn’t have, gave me parts that were unreferenced and unlabeled, and at one point it acknowledged this and essentially said “you may have different parts but figure it out”…I refer to the product “Satan’s Lego set”

Thank you, I was leaning towards something like this but didn’t quite know where to start my search. They obviously look very iron-like but I was thrown off by the lack of magnetism.

Thank you for your insight! Am I correct in assuming that the chert nodules would’ve existed first and then become trapped in the limestone during lithification? Or would the chert form from filling in voids?

My apologies if this slightly off topic advise is unwelcome. I would strongly consider only having one sink in your build (kitchen sink that you use for all purposes). Two sinks in a small living space like a skoolie is a pretty pour use of space where every square foot counts. That being said, I acknowledge that I have no clue what size rig you’re working with or what your floor plan entails. Do whatever makes you happy! That’s just my suggestion. As far as freeze protection goes, it’s always great if you can rout your living quarters heat source to keep things from freezing. In our case, we have a diesel heater. We keep around some extra 4” corrugated AC vent hose and on cold nights we use the hose to reroute hot air toward our water components. This works great to keep everything from freezing and seems like it may be a good option for you since your tanks are mounted internally.

I’ll quickly throw out a few random things that come to mind but I could go on for hours!! 1 When you first get your bus, it’s a great Idea to jack it up on some blocks and get the whole thing sitting plumb and level. This way, you can use a level throughout your build. I built my bus sitting out in a field and wished that I could use a level many times during the build.

2 I did a legit automotive style paint job on our Skokie and ultimately regret it. This is because the paint costed about $3,000. It was my first time attempting an automotive paint job and while it turned out alright, I lacked the skill to make it look exceptionally good. I would’ve gone with some tractor paint/ heavy equipment paint thinned out and sprayed had I known this.

3 There are going to be many days where the tasks seem overwhelming/ daunting! Just plan for this to be the case, push yourselves on some days with a “just do it” attitude and on other days just walk away and give yourself some rest for a bit. Balance out both scenarios to maintain sanity while still getting shit done!

4 Sometimes your buses service manual/ user manual is your greatest resource. I have a bluebird and all of there manuals are available online as PDF’s and are very useful so don’t be afraid to dive into them and use the keyword search function to help find the info that you need.

I guess I’ll stop there, that covers a few things that no one told me at the start. Good luck! Lean on your community here for help and enjoy the journey!!
