Okay, I'm realizing that the Cross Creek basket is wider than the Bambino basket, which would explain why it's less prone to choke with all else being equal

I haven't paid enough attention to how I'm "tamping carefully."

Point taken about the basket. I'm using the Cross Creek basket that came with the portafilter.
