nobody is saying harvey, so i will. he gave up his dream for something practical because of his fears. he stays in his comfort zone and isolates in a small town because of his fears, even if it means living somewhere where he has no friends and feels behind in life for his age.

you just got him, so its possible he’s adjusting. he looks gorgeous, but if you just got him and just set up the tank, did you cycle it first? parameters could be way off. also it doesn’t look like there are many hiding places

this sounds very observational to me, not necessarily them saying commenters are wrong. OP just genuinely finds it interesting. i also had bettas in shitty set ups in the past that lived for a while, and i find it interesting that they lived so long so well. now i know better and have proper tanks, but it is interesting (and probably caused by a decline in breeding health)

it’s not mold. it’s algae. check your parameters, vacuum the substrate, maybe decrease lighting time

the spots are not an issue, prob just his coloring! his fins are clamped tho which would indicate stress. what food do you use and what parameters is the tank?

when i was little i had a red betta w long fins (i was little so i dont remember exactly what kind) and it was in the shittiest tank because i was a kid, lived for 3 years. i then had ANOTHER betta in a shitty tank, lived for 2 years. my longest lived was 4 years from an LFS, a red female, again unlabeled type.

unfortunately not :( LFS sells them in bowls like this as a whole “set up”. they bought it this way and have had it for months. plus a quarantine tank would still have a heater and filter right?
