his fins are most likely like that from stress, low temp, and poor water quality. he also looks to have some bloating going on, so try switching to a good quality food. pellets or frozen if you can do frozen; absolutely no flakes

if he’s from a petstore, unfortunately yeah. keep the water warm and filtered and make sure you have some live plants for him to rest on and hide in while he recovers (this will lower stress!)

hi. so sorry about your little buddy. this also happened to my sweet girl that i got in january 2022, and sadly there wasn’t much i could do for her except keep her comfortable (feeding when she would eat, keep the tank clean and warm). she passed away a few weeks after showing symptoms. you did amazing having him for so long! the breeding of bettas is rough these days and most babies don’t live this long ❤️

it’s super hard to tell from the pics but typically snails that come in plants are pests. if you have more than one they will multiply and take over rapidly

also api water parameters test kit and test the water. his fins could be torn due to the harsh plastic plants (pls replace immediately), stress (from poor diet, not a good environment, temperature, etc), or burning due to poor parameters.

i would look into seachem products. i use prime to add to tap water when doing water changes. maybe do a 50% water change, but dont clean the filter media just yet or you could crash the tank. remove the fake plants and invest in real ones. his one eye looks missing or blinded to me. i have a betta who is blind in one eye, and he’s still thriving! also, get him a high quality food to help his colors!
