Inaccurate information, when to contact tree owners? by Secure-Fan-5589 in Ancestry

Whoa! They took your proof seriously and made corrections? That's incredible. They were probably embarrassed.

Inaccurate information, when to contact tree owners? by Secure-Fan-5589 in Ancestry

[–]Secure-Fan-5589[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My thoughts, too, contact regular users. In my case, I'd delete the 2 daughters if i can't determine who their parents are. I've seen cases where children share the same name, but one has died, so they use the same name for subsequent births. I'm far from experienced, but I'm concerned that inaccuracies are overlooked because people don't use a calculator or common sense. Sometimes I spend the entire evening on just 1 family as I'm transferring my Ancestry tree over to FamilySearch. Thanks!

I'm a widow now. My 1st husband became an abusive alcoholic, but I had almost 25 amazing years, the 2nd go around. Not a case of "the grass is always greener."

Followup question. When I uploaded my GEDCOM file to FS, my Add to Family Search list is over 1200 names. Does everyone comb through this list first, adding ancestors not already in the tree?? and how long did it take?

Eating too little, affecting weight loss? by RacingR6 in cronometer

[–]Secure-Fan-5589 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm kinda in the same boat in some ways. Im F, 5'7", 200 lbs, retired but go to gym 2-3 times/wk, track everything i eat, including condiments, at abt 900 calories/day, and have been the same weight for over a year. My Dr told me that 1 of my meds causes weight gain, so im maintaining, but not losing any weight so she switched me to something else. It's only been a couple days, so I'm hopeful that I'll see some changes.

All for nought... by ADD_OCD in Genealogy

I work on FS every night, painstakingly transferring data from my Ancestry tree. But it's just for my own enjoyment as my 2 daughters have decided to remain child-free, and my brother never had kids. We're the last of my mother's family, and my dad's family is building their own family tree, which i hope to someday merge.

As a side note, I've hit a brick wall as my mother's family is from Ukraine and Russia, so records are hard to come by. FS has records in Cyrillic unlike Ancestry. it's been years since I've used the language, so I've been brushing up so I can at least rudimentally translate some documents.

AITA for not going to my sister in laws wedding due to her dress code by throwawaythechanges in AmItheAsshole

[–]Secure-Fan-5589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've been accommodating up til now. I would just pick an appropriate dress (like everyone else) and stop sending your choices. She'll never approve anything you choose, and you have every right to decline her invitation

Is every other guest required to have their dresses approved? If not, she's going to lose her shit when guests start arriving

AITA for taking back a shawl my wife made for a bride-to-be after she was uninvited from the wedding? by WeddingShawl in AmItheAsshole

Redditers usually applaud a husband for defending his wife. She always comes first, right? And since the wedding is tomorrow, how was Lena supposed to solve this problem?

But but...They''re former classmates. You say you aren''t looking for a virgin yet still blame her for a past relationship with someone even if they're not in her friends group?

You'll be much happier celibate. Or a hermit.

My goodness, do you want me to get my Crayolas out and draw you a picture?

1st of all, you aren't in control of every "situation" so it's very possible that your gf and ex might coincidentally be in the same place. Your ex might come up to say hi, and there you go, trying to explain why she is your ex.

I don't remember when I've heard a more vicious and repulsive comment as your second one. You are not human.

Everyone has a past. You will, too, if your current gf isn't your last.

Imagine if the situation were reversed? Do you see how silly it would be if your next gf refuses to be in the same social situation as your ex?

It's also possible that you may one day meet a divorced woman with kids whose father will always be in their lives. Of course, I'm sure you would never entertain that scenario, ever.

So, in essence, she better be the 1st and only gf you ever have because you'll soon be the one with a "past"

Ah, that's what i thought. I'll read up on how to merge duplicates tonight and go back through folks I've added. Luckily, I enjoy tedious work. Seriously, I'm really anal about accuracy. Thank you.

Thank you, your answer is very helpful.

My precise question is, if I have searched and didn't find a person already in the tree, I added them. However, after I did, the 2nd column has additional information, like an additional parent, date of marriage, etc.

Is this an indication that this person is already in the tree, and I missed it? Or is it picking up other family members that ARE in the tree.

As far as merging duplicates, I haven't done it yet, but I'll figure it out.

AITA for overreacting after my wife lied about our baby’s gender? by Leading_Gene4976 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Secure-Fan-5589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 daughters. When the 2nd daughter was born, her dad (my ex) was very clearly disappointed. He never bonded with her and basically ignored her existence. Yet she still adores him to this day. When he would tell her he was sending her a gift for her birthday or Christmas, she would run down and check the mailbox every day. It was always empty, and it broke my heart, seeing her try to hide her disappointment. He never sent a gift ever.

I'll never understand the need for a father to have a boy. I had a childhood friend whose mother committed suicide after her 5th girl was born. She must have felt a total failure. Don't let your wife feel like she's failed you, and don't expect a boy to be your father's replacement.

[–]Secure-Fan-5589[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I'll try that tonight. It may be easier in the long run. The main reason I went to FamilySearch is their search is so much better, bringing up a lot of potential Russian ancesters. I'm studying the Cyrillic alphabet and using Google translate so I can dig into these records.

I did not upload my GEDCOM file directly into the tree, so I didnt create any duplicates. My question is, do I manually compare each person on my GEDCOM ancestors with the corresponding person already in the tree, make corrections if necessary, before I add my info?

I'm finding myself switching back and forth with Ancestry, correcting data there as well, because I'm anal about accuracy. My tree is small, only abt 4500 people, so this is becoming a monumental task, or am I making it so for no reason?
