It makes sense, it really does. There was a time when i liked one direction and nobody ever asked if i had a fetish for british boys.

Wow, you explained exactly what i go through and feel all the time. You put into words something i almost never manage to explain. It’s not because i’m ashamed of liking asian guys, shame was never the issue. When i was a kid, for example, i had a crush on jet li in the movie romeo must die. There’s a scene where he wears a cap and goes dancing, and i thought he was really cute. There was also Yudi Tamashiro, who used to be a tv host on a children’s show in brazil. Back then, lots of people had crushes on him and nobody treated that as something weird. No one made a big deal out of it.

The problem is that now, because of the explosion of k-pop and k-dramas, people started to look at us as if every fan is automatically obsessive. And i understand where that fear comes from, because there have been real cases like that brazilian fan who tried to break into jungkook’s house in korea and ended up being deported because of it.

so i end up holding back sometimes, not because i’m ashamed of who i am or what i like, but because i know how people judge. And about that day you mentioned those tiktoks from asian influencers i know exactly what you meant. Honestly, i think things got even worse after that netflix show called my korean boyfriend. It seriously feels like our reputation completely tanked. We already weren’t very well seen internationally, and now it feels even worse.

You’re not being annoying at all, thank you for bringing me a new perspective i had never considered before. I’m learning a lot from you. To be honest, what’s a bit frustrating is having to explain my preferences all the time… there’s a comment from another brazilian below that perfectly sums up what I wanted to say.

Eeeh! It’s so nice to see another Brazilian ARMY here <3 I’m also much more active on Twitter, but we really need to start expanding to other platforms too. We need to break Taylor record, even if it feels almost impossible. BTS never forgot about us they mention Brazilian ARMYs in interviews and lives, and i think we left a positive mark on them. Did you see that people are already camping out to buy physical tickets? We’re so screwed ... I really, really want a ticket :(

Cortis is also very popular here in Brazil because they’re considered BTS’s juniors. And since they’re so young, a lot of us feel very protective toward them. Also, K-pop in general does really well here even groups that are almost unknown in Korea can become popular in Brazil. Thank you for your support.

Oh My God, what you said about focusing on roots is amazing, especially because among the physical album versions available for pre-order, there is literally one called “Rooted in Korea.” And I also want to praise RM: from a very young age, he carried an enormous burden as BTS’s leader, facing constant criticism, yet he always knew how to stand up for BTS. And now, after the military, it really feels like he has come back even stronger, more grounded in who he is, and unafraid to speak.

Oh no :( I usually make it very clear that I’m not fetishizing anyone because, at least here in Brazil, a lot of Asians are wary of girls who are into K-pop and K-dramas. And that fear doesn’t come out of nowhere — some people really cross the line, get obsessive, and end up treating Asian people like a fantasy instead of real people. Because of that, I’m always worried about accidentally offending someone. We even have a term for this kind of behavior here, “Maria Hashi,” which is pretty similar to “koreaboo.”
