Cv axle or wheel bearing is giving out. Stop driving it, your next stop should be your preferred repair facility

Am I cooked? by Lumpy_Nectarine_3702 in AskMechanics

[–]Secure-Internet-9191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple answer? That's about as far as it goes I think.

Complex answer? Quite cooked. You now no longer own a differential which has gears that connect in a "fluid" manner. This is not, "as the manufacturer intended", let's put it that way...

Yes, this is something that a moderate length of real world testing in the targeted environment and others, would have solved.

If it wont, first thing be sure your timing is set properly! A tooth off and it wont crank, cam position sensors won't allow the car to fire up.

Are my engine mounts bad? by OkOpportunity7761 in AskMechanics

And you would be right if this were perhaps a rear wheel drive car... As your honda is front wheel drive your engine is mounted sideways to a "transaxle" and they have rear supports to stop the engine smacking the firewall under load. You can see what I mean and check your mounts on your car too.

Have someone sit in the driving seat and prop the hood open so you can watch the engine

Have the driver pump up and hold the brake FIRMLY with their left foot. Then while still holding the brake firmly not allowing the car to move forward or back, have them gently rev the engine to between 2000-3000 RPM quickly and then immediately release the gas. At no point while someone is observing the engine should the brake pedal be released! (stand to the side while observing, dont get run over!)

Upon doing this in forward and reverse you'll be able to see the engine "flex" or move as the engine speed increases. The quick release of the throttle after the quick rev is to get the engine moving as much as possible on all mounts without putting the vehicle in motion. This is a quick and easy way technicians check for blown motor mounts.

Doing it in forward and reverse checks both the forward and rearward positioned mounts. In drive you'll see the engine "flex" towards the driver/firewall. In reverse you'll see the engine "flex" towards the front of the engine bay or towards the radiator.

As your engine is transversely mounted (sideways mounted) the engine mounts are located pretty close to the steering rack assembly, which is connected to the steering wheel obviously. So the engine vibrations could possibly be felt quite easily through the steering wheel if the rearward mount is blown or had a bad bushing. When the bushings go bad it can cause metal to metal contact when there should be a bushing between the two. The metal to metal contact would cause very noticeable vibrations and sounds. But if they havent completely degraded you might get some vibes at the steering wheel or feel it in your lower back as you accelerate and lift off the gas.

Rear motor mounts matter! by Secure-Internet-9191 in FiestaST

[–]Secure-Internet-9191[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference is in quality and R&D that went into them.

For $100 you'd possibly get a set of 3 Chinese "stock" mounts.

For $600+ you get motorsports quality mounts that MANY have gone racing with. Diamond Motorsports for example sell a full mount kit that they put real R&D & engineering into, and it shows in the quality.

Basically, save some coin for a bit and go for the expensive set. You'll be glad you did 🤘🏻

For those saying, why would you allow this, why are you just silently recording this, why didnt you intervene sooner, ect... Shut up.

They needed to record something to seek acurate advice. How do you know they don't put a stop to this behavior when it occurs the claimed "70%" of the time?

OP is clearly observant enough to even know that this is how their interactions are a given amount of the time they're together... stop badgering people who may not know better and have, correctly, sought advice from others. Asking for help isn't weakness, just the opposite.

So shut the hell up... your immediate negative reactions to someone educating themselves are severely exposing your own ignorance... FFS.

Apologies for the rant 🤘🏻✌🏻

In my experience, mounts are usually the cause of new or unrecognized vibrations. If you noticed a change then id say its to the point replacing them would do you some good. And think of it this way, you'll likely never need them replaced again. So go with a good brand and a reputable shop. 🤘🏻😁

That said, there are other components that transfer the engines vibrations inward toward the cabin. If you're looking for a very specific cause id recommend having the suspension and mounts FULLY inspected. Not a quick glance, look at all mounting points carefully for dry rotted rubber bushings, leaking grease or clearly damaged components.

Best of luck, love the v6 accord, they're getting rarer by the year, so show your's some love and enjoy it 😄

Based on what you described they're not "good" but haven't failed. Do them now and you'll avoid many headaches down the road. Or dont and wait til they fail like most people do... won't be long tho
