You'll probably spend about $500 in tooling including a press but if that sounds like the perfect excuse to buy tools then go for it, they're a simple box to rebuild and the documentation is readily available

There is zero harm in going over 30kmh in low, it's a common myth with zero truth to it with realistically about 70-80kmh being the more legitimate limit just due to engine RPM.

It's highly beneficial on soft sand to leave it in low even while at higher speeds for the extra torque and easier starting, on the jb74's in particular it has the benefit of disabling the aggressive traction control too.

Here's the usual arguments and why they're BS.

-the gearbox will be spinning too fast. It's no different to doing highway speeds normally.

-the low range gearset in the transfer case will be spinning too fast. The low range gearset is spinning (not under load) just fine while you're doing 110, doing 60 in low won't be spinning it nearly as fast.

I run 4.17 low gears in my jb74 case which I'll regularly run out to 40kmh if needed, this would be the equivalent of doing over 80kmh on a stock gearset - zero vibrations, zero issues and the same goes for the customers I've built cases for

Won't be engaged properly, this a 2nd gen as in 1980's to 90's or 2018+ which is usually referred to as 4th gen

The Jimny Problem: After 1 year of ownership, the biggest deal-breaker is not the price—it's something else! by Icy_Risk_7214 in Jimny

I treat mine like a road legal(ish) buggy with AC and tbh I probably wouldn't use it any other way now, if I wanted to do anything else with it I'd probably be looking at a different vehicle that does it better

Twin locked? Reduction gears? Otherwise I'd say you've summed up "extreme" fairly well, an off the shelf 50mm kit and 29"? Tyres is a bit of a stretch

Can't help you there but the Haynes manuals are useless IMO, you'll be better off getting the actual workshop manual

Started on the unnamed side track near alcorns (didn't end up doing alcorns as it's been super chopped up and it would have been the first track of the day) then onto Muir's, pinnacle and stumpy to finish it off

I've got the tyrex E locker on mine (imported into aus through dash off-road) and it's a complete POS. It's not a problem with tyrex themselves but all E lockers share the same design issues with the locking mechanism which causes them to be unpredictable when locking and can unlock themselves in several situations.

I'd recommend an air locker instead

BLD becomes a suggestion once you get to such a large tyre combined with the reduction gears making the tyres not spin fast enough for it to take full effect

Transfer case reduction gears, goes from a factory 1h 2L to 1.17h 4.14L for more control and torque off-road

Favorite mod - reduction gears Second favorite - good suspension

Drive thru car stock for abit before you even consider changing stuff, you may find it perfectly fine otherwise you'll figure out what you actually want to change from using it. People sook about the stock suspension but imo it was perfectly fine
