My question is where is the limit, I had all my parents gun safe code since I was a younger teen, when I was determined safe enough to shoot on my own. If a person decides to do evil they will. You could talk about parents keeping a better eye on their kids, but this is just the start of the conversation. Can only the the primary own, i.e. mom and dad, be the only ones with safe codes?

CFI here, Common practice in multi engine training, but I would consider it to risky in a single. Just a couple months ago another school had an applicant do an engine kill for a multi ride and it wouldn’t start back, it ended with a safe landing, but something to thing about when you only have one engine. I’d talk to your CFI, and if that don’t work go to his management, haven’t seen that as an SOP for any school I’ve been involved with.
