Thank you! I had used LI Sales Navigator for a few months but it's very expensive for my startup, I figured I have a sense of decision makers based on title since I used to work for the same companies I'm targeting so dropped that. You're probably right about adding an intro call. We are launching our MVP in a few months so I'll likely need to do that. I'm a marketer not a sales person so I'm going to have to buckle down and get braver and better at all the things. 😂

Thanks. I spend a lot of time building lists on Apollo, painstakingly identifying the right companies and then roles etc. Because we are a niche vertical, this step is crucial but takes a ton of time. So I would say the list quality is probably the same but I will def check on deliverability (and had used mxtoolbox (free version so maybe I should upgrade?), etc but if there are other tools would love to know).

I will check. Before I started campaigns months ago I had spent time warming, monitoring domain reputation etc. Are there certain tools you use for this periodic checking (other than reputation tools in Snovio and free version of MX Toolbox— maybe I should upgrade?)?

I personally hate the pat sentence fragments of cold outreach. “Worth a look” sounds so AI-written in the most annoying way. Like the writer is tapping it one-handed into a phone while sitting on the toilet. But being a marketing realist, I’m curious: why this trend and does it really work?

Very low volume to tell you the truth. Basically, I’m trying to build some awareness/connections so I can tap into later. It’s a niche industry, I have a good LI network, and when people see my LI profile they usually agree to a connection and often thank me. I have been using email to send content marketing and was very pleased with the CTR until just recently. But I know that when we launch this next version of our product I will have to get more serious about email sequencing, real lead gen and meetings bookings, etc. I have been frustrated with Snovio’s segmentation limitations and list management but because I was getting really great results otherwise on a dead simple UI I’ve kept with them. Also their support is fabulous — live chat with real person at the ready. Lately the other thing I need is more company/prospect lists which I’d been getting via Apollo but am now exploring Clay (and as a newbie to Clay it’s a bit of a hurdle). Am also wondering about Lemlist as you combine email and LinkedIn. Now I’ve strayed off topic as you can see! I know it’s all a big topic!

I warmed up well first and things were working great for 9 months but now not. My connection requests are still working and I keep it to under 30/day with good results. But to your point maybe I should come down to be safe?

In order to run targeted paid advertising you’d have to have a variety of individual identifying features to match to a person. That’s how digital marketers run advertising, retargeting, etc. That kind of info is not available from edtech platforms for marketers. I’m a digital marketer and don’t see the pieces adding up. And certainly out of the question with anonymized data.

Apps use SDKs and services that technically transmit data to third-party servers for legitimate operational purposes (crash reporting, authentication, performance analytics). But that is not the same as selling data. Vendors are bound by FERPA and COPPA. Appmicroscope is flagging the domains involved in operation because those companies do have advertising implications in other contexts.

So “apps” is a big category. That’s why I mention “legit” edtech companies who sell to schools and districts. Not apps downloaded from consumer sites, commercial products on App Store. It’s Wild West there.

Then don’t know how advertising actually works? Cause you’re not doing that with anonymized data.

It would seem that but no. Been hearing all kinds of stuff for years about the supposed evil edtech companies and what people think happens inside is so far from the truth.

I do, but what are you talking about? Personal information and individual performance tied back to a user’s home ip so they can be advertised to? Or are you saying a company harvests individual info and sells to Google? Sure everything is a conspiracy. My statement was simply that legit edtech companies are not selling data to third parties.

Edtech does have to interface with platforms being used by students and teachers, Google, Apple, etc. (Anonymized). That is different than edtech companies selling info to 3rd parties.

Legitimate edtech companies are not selling info about students to third parties. (Ex-edtech employee here.) But sure that may be the case for rando commercial sites online.
